Contacts should be "living" on your computer (Outlook Address Book) or in the cloud (iCloud, Google). The phone is merely a device to allow you to carry your contacts with you portably. Simply synch the contacts back to your phone from wherever they are "living".

You HAVE been using your phone as designed, right?

I had this same problem EXCEPT that it randomly did it while I was at work, after it had been updated to iOS 7 for a day so regardless of what apple covers their mistake by saying that you should do, that is NOT a solution. multiple people have brought this up and it is not while updating, it will also does it randomly throughout the day AFTER it is updated.

I had the same problem EXCEPT that my data that was "living on my computer" was killed by iOS 7 when I synced. Over 2000 business contacts with notes, photos, everything. Five years of work killed by the ugly, garish iOS 7.

[UPDATE] Apparently, I checked a box when loading iOS 7 that synced all my contacts to iCloud and then deleted everything off the phone and, subsequently, off of Outlook. Now to figure out how to get them back out of iCloud and turn that off for good. What a hassle!

Having the same problem - no contacts, notes (except for those stored on my iPhone itself), reminders, calendars etc. All the data's clearly still on iCloud, and accessible via other devices, but even after un/reticking individual sync options, and deleting my iCloud account off my iPhone, none of it will sync BACK. Extremely wary of doing anything on those apps in case it overwrites the old data - it's INFURIATING.

Try a restore to an older backup through itunes. It will still have ios7 on it but ur contacts may come back that way. Just hook up to itunes, click on restore and there should be a list come up with dates of when it was backed up, pick an older one and you might just get most of your contacts back. Make sure you save any new contacts etc first though.

Yep. This has happened to both my daughter and me. Amazing this kind of thing slips by untested.

Anyway, my daughter was able to restore her contacts since she syncs to iCloud. Unfortunately, since I backup to iTunes... and it backed up my phone after updating... even the backup has no contacts. Is there a way to select an older backup? Does iTunes really only keep one backup?
