I can't delete any of my apps. I don't have much space and I want to get rid of old ones that I never use, but the option to remove them does not appear in itunes, nor does the little "x" appear when I press and hold an icon. Any suggestions?

Try changing app delete restrictions: settings - general - restrictions and check if "Deleting Apps" is turned on. If so, simply turn it off.
