I read your post thouroughly but I still cant get the Apple apps free.

    I have:

-purchased my iPad mini (no retina display, current model) after September 1st, 2013.

-registered and activated the my device on the Apple ID thing the SAME day I purchased it, 5/27/14

-opened the App store on the device to see the prices, which were not listed as free.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Could it be that the iPad is not Retina display and that's why I cant get the free apps?

    Thanks for your help.

No, the model of iPad doesn't matter. Presuming you purchased this iPad new from an authorized Apple reseller, see this:

If you continue to have problems, go here:

and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.

    Regards.

I concur with varjak, but I'll add one minor supplemental note: my iPad mini is also the non-Retina version, and I was able to download the offered apps for free with no difficulties; it's clearly not an issue with the model you bought.

Thanks Zarmanto and varjak paw! I checked back again and the apps were listed as free. Thank you both for your help!

    SOLUTION!!!

So, the same thing happened to me. I bought my iPad after September 1st etc. in other words I met all the requirements but the apps still weren't free.

    Here's what worked for me:

    Go to the App Store

    Go to featured

Scroll all the way to bottom

You'll see a link that says "apps made by Apple"

It should bring up all the apps promised for free, as being free.

Hope this works for you guys, good luck
