Oct 1, 2013 10:04 PM in response to vikingollyby ChrisSmith1,Everything I've seen on the internets points to either security software, firewall, or a modified hosts file blocking your computer from connecting to gs.apple.com. You should try the steps from http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694 under the section titled "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com".
Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com
These errors may be the result of the connection to gs.apple.com being redirected or blocked. Follow these steps to resolve these errors:
- Install the latest version of iTunes.
- Check security software and ensure that communication to gs.apple.com is allowed. Follow these steps for assistance with security software.
- Check the hosts file. The restore will fail if there is an active entry to redirect gs.apple.com. Follow the advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting steps to edit the hosts file or revert to a default hosts file. See "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information."
- Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
- If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

Dec 22, 2013 7:14 PM in response to vikingollyby Dr. Rez1,Frankly speaking, it is a most common problem if you do custom modification on your idevice on ios 7...
my suggessions after restoring several idevice :
1. Make a hard reset by holding power and home button for 10 secs.
2. Make sure you r using latest version of itunes and your downloaded firmware of your idevice
3. If someone of you used "tinyumbrella" to exit recovery loop . then open tinyumbrella again and open advanced tab, uncheck all boxes & now exit
4. Now try restoring again by reconnecting ur idevice via itunes...
Hope this will help...
