iTunes Radio won't use cellular data

I recently updated to iOS 7. I've been trying to use iTunes Radio since upgrading. Every time I start the radio app it asks me if it's ok to use cellular data for radio. I answer yes, that it is ok and nothing happens. End of story. I am using an iPhone 5 with an unlimited data plan through AT&T.

Actually, you really don't have "unlimited data". Here's AT&T's statement regarding "unlimited data":

  • Customers with a 3G or 4G smartphone – who also still have our unlimited data plan – will see speeds reduced if they use 3GB (gigabytes) of data or more in a billing cycle. Speeds will return to normal at the start of the next billing cycle. For context, less than 5 percent of smartphone customers use more than 3GB per month.
  • For customers with a 4G LTE smartphone – who also still have our unlimited data plan – data speeds will be reduced if usage is 5GB (gigabytes) or more in a billing cycle. Speeds will return to normal at the start of the next billing cycle.

Since you fall into the "4G LTE smartphone" category, guess what? You have 5GB's per month.

I'm aware of AT&T throttling unlimited data users. It's been like that all along. You didn't help, instead you just slammed my data plan. That didn't make iTunes Radio work. Did it make you feel better about yourself/your data plan? Your life in general? I couldn't figure it out for myself, that's why I came to the help forum. Not to be told that my unlimited plan is actually only 5gig. But thank you for being so informative wjosten. Next time I have a data plan issue you will be my go to guy.

I also have a grandfathered AT&T unlimited plan. Does anyone have any idea what the LTE speed is reduced to after 5 GB?

I haven't had a chance to see it yet. Since LTE for me is often in the 15-20 Mbit range, AT&T could reduce it by 90%, and I'd still have a completely usable connection. Or do they cut it down to a couple hundred kbits, taking us back to the 2G era?

Any insight would be appreciated.
