Mac 10.8.5 - IOS7 Bluetooth Crisis

Seems to me there is a big problem with the new Apple OS upgrades killing Bluetooth! In my case on my MacBook.

I've been struggling with this for 2 days, since I upgraded to 10.8.5 which I needed to go to get the latest iTunes, which I needed to upgrade my iPhone and iPad to IOS7 . . . yes, right down the garden path I walked

MacBook Pro 17", early 2009.

After the 10.8.5 upgrade Bluetooth is Not Available, same as seanluck13.

-System Preferences: no sign of Bluetooth

-System Search: no sign of Bluetooth

-System Profile Information: Bluetooth: No Information Found

-So Bluetooth is absent, removed, not present -- AGHHHHH!!!!!

Apple BT keyboard and trackpad can't be used. MacBook trackpad is worn out and I get wrist strain trying to activate it!

I read on a forum that a fix was to reinstall the system over the internet after a CMD-OPT-R restart. Did that -- 5 HOURS LATER -- NO CHANGE, BLUETOOTH STILL ABSENT !@(%&( )TY(@Q#*!!

Please someone help me before I throw this Mac down the garbage shoot. At the moment that's only a fantasy.

Same problem here. Attempted the SMC reset, NVRAM reset, combo update, and full reinstall via the Internet. Nothing made a difference, and I continue to sit here with my bluetooth trackpad non-functional, using the laptop open despite my external display.

It is really egregious how these sorts of significant problems always occur with updates but Apple does nothing to acknowledge their existence. Invariably, this will be fixed at some point, but Apple's quite deliberate refusal to comment on the reality of these issues and let the user community know they are working on it is just a bit ... douchey.

i use the OS 10.8.5 intel core i7 with 8go DDR3 build 12F45, bought one month ago.

I find the following bug : conflict between wifi and bluetooth. When my MagicMouse is enabled, if I walk away 3 or 5m without disabling the mouse, then the wifi stop working and then it searches for a network indicates that the connection is non-existent. miracle: I turn off the bluetooth in the menu bar and the wifi is working again properly??... anybody can tell me if this bug is known? is there a patch for this?

This worked for me too (running 10.8.5 update). Thank you!

After reading many posts on this problem and attempting a couple of suggestions that didn't work for me, I saw this note and ran 10.8.5 update, and my bluetooth is working again. YAY. This after a very helpful and thorough (I thought) Genius Bar appointment this afternoon during which they concluded my bluetooth hardware was broken.

A good reminder to go to these boards before the store.

Thanks again!
