Try it again but set up as a new device instead of restoring from a backup and see if that resolves it.

You can always go back and restore from your backup if it does not help.

Exactly. That is why I suggested you restore as a new device. I suspect it is something specific to your device and setup.

I have an iPad 2 and have the same issue. Sometimes volume will be in the control center, sometimes not. Keys don't work. Nothing works. This should have been fixed by now!!!

How did you first update? Directly from the device or iTunes?

How did you restore? Resetting Alll Contects & Settings will not reinstall iOS.

You should connect to iTunes to restore. Always backup before restoring.

I have a 4s. I have tried all the methods mentioned on this string to no avail (including full backup and restore thru iTunes). I cannot get the volume control to show up unless I have an audio jack plugged in. Google searches show this is definitely not unique to one device. Does anyone know when the next update is due out?  Although my research suggests this glitch will not be addressed.

Hello everybody. I had this problem in iOS 6 the latest version and after searching the internet i've found out that my problem was in fact a hardware problem. The charger connector from the buttom of the phone was full of dust. After i cleaned it the problem was solved. I don't know if this is the same reason here but it worth a try. Good luck all!

I sometimes think this is a hardware issue, since blowing out the bottom connector and earplug connector occasionally helps.

Also, in relation to a Belkin FM car adapter, the problem occurs far more often in warm weather rather than cool weather.

But mostly I think it is a software problem. When I watch a Hulu stream, I have yet to have the sound fail during an ad.

Also, FaceTime seems to work rather flawlessly. And the phone ringer and other system sounds work fine.

As others have noted, I get this mostly while playing QuickTime video, such as following a post from Facebook. And the loss of sound corresponds to the disappearance of the volume controls, sort of like what happens when the Belkin FM is plugged in.

Anyone know if QuickTime uses a different bit of sound code than FaceTime or system sounds?

    N.B.: iPhone 4S MD441l/A OS 7.0.4.

I fixed this problem by plugging in and unplugging my charger twice. This was the iPad charger which I used while my phone was being reset. When I plugged/unplugged it, the charger was disconnected from the wall. I'm not sure if the charger's being unplugged from any power source made a difference, but it was an easy way for me to fix the problem.
