Q: Find my Friends doesn't work after IOS 7 update

We use find my friends for our entire family to monitor kids locations, etc.  Since updating to IOS 7, one of the phones only shows it's location sporadically - otherwise says location not available.

Have verified location services are turned on, nothing is blocked, etc.

This phone was updated to IOS 7 over wifi (vs. through iTunes) - one other phone had some minor (unrelated) issues after updating over wifi that were resolved by doing a factory reset & updating from iTunes - wondering if that could be cause of the issue here as well.  Anyone else encountering issues with FMF?

Yep!  Looks like the 7.0.2 update fixed it.  As soon as we applied it on the one phone having the problem 'POOF'!  All working again.  YAY!  So happy.  Thanx all for slamming Apple with requests!  I can find my Wife and Son again.

    That's it!

    7.02 fixed it!

    It's fixed on 7.0, not just 7.0.2.

People, 7.0.2 did not fix the issue. Many off us updated when it was released days ago and the issue persisted. Whatever they did yesterday caused the app to work as it did before. And we are all ecstatic that resolved.

I also want to thank everyone for submitting requests to Apple. Way to come together on this. And it is true 7.02 DID NOT fix the issue. They clearly did something in the background to fix this app and I would love to know what that is, but I'm not sure we will ever find that out.  Great work everyone!

Working for our 4 iPhones now too. None of us updated to ios7.02, so it was clearly done on Apples end.

Thanks everyone. I guess I can change my 1 star review of FMF?!

Mine is still not working ...

I've checked the Background App Refresh setting and installed 7.0.2, and it's still a no go.

    Am I missing something here?

sprice had posted this on Sept 26th in this thread. Try these steps to make sure you haven't missed anything.

    "POSSIBLE SOLUTION

(or at least something that some people may have overlooked)

In iOS 7, if Find My Friends is working for you WHEN THE APP IS RUNNING, i.e. you can see the Locations of family members and they can see you as long as everyone has the App running, BUT it doesn't work once the App is closed (or wasn't launched since the last restart,) then check the following:

Make sure the app is listed in Background App Refresh under Settings > General ... In my case the FMF App was NOT listed there.  I chatted at length with an Apple Support Rep trying various things (reboots, Airplane Mode on and off, etc.)  She was unable to explain to me how Apps qualify to show up in that list, or how to get an App onto the list.  What finally worked for me was DELETING the Find My Friends App and then reinstalling it from the App Store (Purchases.)  It then showed up in the Background App Refresh List, I confirmed it was turned On, and FMF instantly started working as expected!   I was afraid I would have to re-enter Follower information or re-send Invitations to Friends after reinstalling, but those settings were retained.

Note: I also happened to update to iOS 7.0.2 earlier today, so I'm not sure if that mattered or not.

Find My Friends also MUST be listed under Settings > Privacy > Location Services, and must be turned On, obviously.

When upgrading an iPhone there are lots of things to do, so it's easy to answer a screen prompt about Location Services or Background App Refresh the "incorrect" way (at least incorrect with respect to Find My Friends working properly.)  Sometimes it's not easy to go back and find the specific Setting where that function is adjusted...

I hope this information helps other families get FMF working for their devices.  Ours are all now working reliably."

Same here.  It now works as it used to.  Curious it didn't take an app update.  If it helps, I also have not updated to 7.0.2.

If it was Apple who proactively did something about it, then I shall say they were pretty responsive.  I know of no other company which set up a direct channel like this one for the purpose of gathering feedback from its users.

As a friendly reminder : it is important to 1) uninstall the app, 2) turn off phone and back on (reboot) 3) re-install from the App Store. FMF should ask your credentials again and this should fix it for good. Assuming that both the privacy/location services and background app refresh settings are enabled for FMF...

I've removed the app on every phone. Completed defaulted everything and totally deleted all followers and re-entered them. I'm still having the same sort of problems. I can get it to put a location but its several minutes old and updating gets no location found. If "Apple" did something to fix it behind the scenes it's either not totally fixed of only fixed for some. Anyone else still having troubles?

Whilst it is now working and picks up the people you follow, if I set a notification for when they leave or arrive at a location it doesn't send one. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I had the same problem. Try the following steps:

    1) open the gps location service for Find My iPhone.

    2) open background app refresh for Find My iPhone.

    3) login with the account that u want to find not urs, then quit app
