Q: Find my Friends doesn't work after IOS 7 update

We use find my friends for our entire family to monitor kids locations, etc.  Since updating to IOS 7, one of the phones only shows it's location sporadically - otherwise says location not available.

Have verified location services are turned on, nothing is blocked, etc.

This phone was updated to IOS 7 over wifi (vs. through iTunes) - one other phone had some minor (unrelated) issues after updating over wifi that were resolved by doing a factory reset & updating from iTunes - wondering if that could be cause of the issue here as well.  Anyone else encountering issues with FMF?

iPhone 5, iOS 7

Mine still needs the app to be open. It's the only way the geofence icon shows up in the status bar. This is extremely annoying.

    Possible Solution:

I too had the same problem many of you are having with Find Friends after installing iOS7. My wife could see my phone but I could not see hers. I called Apple Tech Support and they helped me fix the the problem.

    1. Go to iOS7 Settings / General / Background App Refresher / make sure Find Friends is green.

    2. Go to Find Friends / Me / Account / look at your Active Device list. Make sure you click on the one that says (This Device). Also make sure if there’s someone (Kids, friends, wife) on your Find Friends list that you cannot see, that they too check there account and click on (This Device). This worked for me and I hope it works for you.

    Good Luck!!

Works again for me now as well. I didn't change anything and didn't upgrade to iOS7.0.2.

I guess Apple fixed an issue in their location service somewhere in their data centers.

Just upgraded to iOS7 and FMF throws a window up saying: Connect to iTunes to Use  Push Notifications

"Find Friends" notifications may include alerts, sounds and icon badges. <OK>.

When it I hit OK the message keeps coming back. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, no difference. When the window is showing the screen is completely unresponsive, although I think the app is working underneath (you can't see anything, because the window is in the way!). Haven't seen this message in any of the posts, any ideas?

    Greetings all:

The behaviors you describe are baked in restrictions in the iOS 7 environment.  It is unlikely they will change.

There is a 3rd party alternative available specifically for the iPhone running iOS 7 that provides you more info than just location.  It can tell you if members of your group have force quit the app, as well as other app status issues, like whether Location Services / Background App Refresh are off or on.

It also provides frequent automatic updates with very little battery use, running in the background.  Just search the App Store for 'Intelligent Location Sharing'.

    Thanks.

This app costs £2.49 and means everyone who I need to locate will need to buy it.

I was able to solve the original posted problem re Friends location not available. I figured out that it wasn't my phone but my Friends. To solve, get their phone, go to: settings, general, restrictions, type in their code, then scroll to location services, then activate, and in the list ensure Find Friends is activated. This then activates location services on their phone.

Also, their iMessage might also have been knocked off from ios7 update. To activate go to settings, messages and activate iMessage.

    Good luck. G

Thank you for your input, but I checked his phone and it was set up as you said anyway.

His location is still not available.

Yeah, I noticed this a few days ago too @Preacher46.  I don't use the feature often but it's a nice one to have.  I've got to check to see if there's another thread on that issue.

FMF works fine if you have iOs7 on your phone and are looking for a friend lthat has iOs6 (I can see my kids), but not if the friend has iOs7.

It also works in reverse, a friend can see me from their iOs6 devise when I hav iOs7.

I've got all IOS 7 devices and they all see each other just fine once FMF is setup properly. I can't see most of my friends because they haven't gone though this post to figure out why it's not working.  So that isn't the issue.

Well I'm completely flumoxed. I've just installed FMF on my OH's iPad which is running iOs7 and I can see it sitting next to me at home!

I might uninstall it on his phone and see what happens.
