Q: Find my Friends doesn't work after IOS 7 update

We use find my friends for our entire family to monitor kids locations, etc.  Since updating to IOS 7, one of the phones only shows it's location sporadically - otherwise says location not available.

Have verified location services are turned on, nothing is blocked, etc.

This phone was updated to IOS 7 over wifi (vs. through iTunes) - one other phone had some minor (unrelated) issues after updating over wifi that were resolved by doing a factory reset & updating from iTunes - wondering if that could be cause of the issue here as well.  Anyone else encountering issues with FMF?

iPhone 5, iOS 7

    Finally.

Grabbed OH's phone as soon as he walked in last night.

I opened the app only to be told that location services needed to be turned on.

    Now this hadn't happened previously.

Went in to settings/privacy/location services and scrolled down, and lo and behold FMF wasn't green.

I can now see OH is safe and sound at work.

I'm sure there weren't as many hoops to go through with iOs6.

I do know though that we both fiddled with settings to try to save on battery usage.

Also, you don't need the app to be open. As long as you are signed in.

If you go to the app you will see if you are signed in or not. (It will say 'signed in as .....')

You only need to actually open the app and sign in with your password to check where your friends are.

I had to unfollow and then re-request to follow someone in order to get it working again. I can find everyone that I've reconnected with.

However, as someone mentioned, the geofencing notification still do not work.

Same issues on new iPhone 5S here.

I uninstalled the App and reinstalled it. after signing in it prompted me that another device is currently registered to report it's location. I agreed to switch to this device and it now seems to work.

Is it me or is this getting worse?  Granted, FMF is working (basically) but I just noticed another stupid thing it just started doing.  When I turn my phone on and tell Siri to find my son, I get the responce, "You have to unlock your phone to use FMF."  So I unlock it and ask again, "Find my son!"  Reponce?  "You have to unlock your phone to use FMF."  Now if I unlock my phone without asking Siri for anything it works the way it's supposed to, but if my first action is a voice initialed FMF request the app can't get get access to the darn phone.

I'm 99% sure this wasnt happening just a few days ago.

Can't comment on Siri as I won't use it.

I find it very frustrating as 9/10 times it doesn't understand me

my dad had the same problem and I figured out what to do......Just delete the app the reinstall it. When you open the app up for the first time it should ask you if you want to share with other apple accounts. Click "share" then it should allow other apple id's to see you.

I successfully solved the issue by removing my friends and adding then once again to my list of friends.  I am able to track location with no issues

I noticed on one of my iPhones that it asked me if it was OK to share my location when I first ran it after getting a new iPhone. I said yes and my wife could find me. But, on her iPhone, it never asked if it was OK to share. I deleted the entire app and readded it back on her phone. After signing in she was then asked if it was OK to share her location and I was still listed as a friend (we didn't have to re-invite each other).

    Hope this helps someone.

Finally found the solution which seems to have worked for me and my friends. Turn off Find My Friends in Background App Refresh. And yes I mean Off.

My husand and I are having an issue with FMF also.  I can find him on my Iphone 5s but he can't find me on his Iphone 5 and Ipad.  We have tried the troubleshooting steps on suggested on the app...click on the refresh button to see if it locates that device...located just fine.

We've checked all the setting mentioned on the thread and in the troubeshooting.  Nothing.

    Any thoughts or advice?

Are you both on the same iOs? If you are, try laying the phones side by side and check each FMF association.

It's sad almost two months after iOS 7's launch, Apple still hasn't update all of its OWN apps. They stressed developers to update their apps and get it compliant with iOS 7 and to use the new design language yet they have yet to take their own advice. You would think these apps would be updated as soon as iOS 7 was released. It's last update, which only added minor fixes, was over 3 months ago. The Find My Friends reviews on the App Store has 2-stars and shrinking.

    Get with it Apple!!

I asked about this at the Apple Store.  They were aware of the problem and suggeste that I back up my iPhone and then do a Restore from backup.  This apparently reloads the OS onto the phone.  It worked and I get my notifications again.
