Some new photos in Camera Roll are all just black, after recent upgrade to iOS 7.

I upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 7 yesterday, and the photo app was working fine. But today, I took a few pictures, and the first 4 are viewable, but the last bunch just show up as all black when I try to veiw them full screen.

Here's the details: In the Photos app Camera Roll grid/thumbnail screen, the photos are visible, but when I tap on a picture to view it in full screen, it's just a black box where the photo should be. In the Photo Stream grid/thumbnail screenI had the HDR setting on, so it duplicated all the pics (normal & HDR). I also had a "CHROME" filter on. But like I said, the 1st 4 pics I took were fine, & then about 1/2 hr later, the following pics I took show as only black boxes. What's going on, & how do I fix this?

(I read on a blog that this black-photo problem was happening to people during beta testing, but this is not a beta version of the iOS 7, I upgraded when the rest of the planet did.)

Here are screenshots...

This photo was taken this morning, & can be viewed full screen just fine...User uploaded file

This photo was taken 1/2 hr later, & when tapped for full screen view, is just black...User uploaded file (the "normal" version is black too.)

Please help! Thanks!

I have had a similar problem with my iPhone 4S - on my camera, when I set a filter other then "none" when I take a picture - it is blank. For me, it is white. Even stranger still, when I swipe from photo to photo - it momentarily flashes the photo, then it disappears. What I have had to do, is:

A) Make sure when you take a picture, do not use a filter. Make sure it is set to "none".

B) If I have forgotten that there is a filter on, then I go and turn the filter off, and re-save the picture's filter to "none".

C) If I import to iPhoto - the import seems to be fine.

I do feel that his a direct problem with the IOS 7 filtering mechanism for photos on my iPhone 4S. I hope this helps, so you can recover any photos your are missing.

My wife has been having similar issues w/her iPhone 4S. She's on iOS 7.0.4 & has white thumbnails for pictures for pics she's taken using filters. I was able to restore them by rotating the image, saving the rotated version & then rotating them back to their original orientation. That has worked for all the pictures so far & we've been able to otherwise keep the images "as-is".

Hi,

I faced the same problem.

It seems to be a bug in Camera App and IOS7.

I have a workaround for this problem.

Open the photo in edit mode. Change the effect to none and save the photo. Then, reopen the photo in edit mode. Reset the effect to the original effect and save the photo.

Kudos buddy, your photo is fixed.

I hope this workaround works for you.

Enjoy !! 😀

Glad I'm not the only one. The black photos issue stopped for me, but a few days ago random photos started showing up white. You can see them in camera roll, but when you tap to view, they go white. To fix it, you must "edit" each photo - just using the "enhance" feature is enough - and then "save". After that they are fine. What made it annoying was it happened on vacation so I had to edit over 100 photos. Still, I'm just glad they were salvageable!

I hate this new iOS 7. Why on Earth I decided to update my phone. I had absolutely the same problem. But my phone went even further. I tried the solution somebody offered here with EDIT->blah blah blah. Then I found out that this iOS spoilt my favorite picture of me, it drew some black crap in my eye. To make things worse I can't share pics from the photos folder, neither with iMessage nor Facebook nor email. Only if I go directly to imessage or facebook and share it from there. And of course I can't go to email to share my pictures!!! THANK YOU APPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And another thing. It's not concerning this topic. Do only I have it? I always keep my icloud empty, I don't want to pay this much on anual bases. So I always have only whatsapp synchronised and contacts and skype. And always delete all the videos and audios people send me on whatsapp to make it smaller. The whole stuff I have is not more then 2Gb, even less. However when I totally clean and delete back up and start from the begging it tells me on the first day 2GB, the second day 2,4 Gb and in 1 week it says I don't have any memory anymore. WHAT????? I have only whatsapp, skype and contacts synchonised. WTHell is that???? I had the same fraud working on my phone even on iOS 6. Am I the only one?

iPhone 4S iOS 7.0.1

I have exactly the same problem!

The "workaround" described by some users in this thread, works only temporary.
In addition to the "black tiles" issue, it seems that some photos are not sorted by date.
Some photos that I imported to camera roll appear to be first, some that I modified with "Autofix" appear to be last etc.

Is there any responce from Apple regarding this bug???

Why we can not downgrade iPhone 4S to iOS6 just like iPhone 4???

iphone 5s with the same issue. Pictures can be viewed in camera roll but when i go to view in full size then a blank screen and cannot even edit etc. if I use the default view I can edit photoes and save. Also videos taken show an error message of 'the requested url not found on server'. Another issue is that the same photos and video cannot be backed up to my PC. Using the standard windows explorer capability the same photos do not display as a thumbnail and when I try to copy them i get a message 'invalid parameter'. Video also shows as '0 bytes' in size and no thumbnail.

I figured it out; when you turn on your camera, select NONE on the filter. The picture will appear immediately like it used to and if you want to change the filter, you can click on edit and it will allow any filter or edit you want.

For those black icons, just select EDIT and hit the magic wand or any edits you want, and the picture will be adjusted and saved like usual.

Voila!
