May 14, 2014 11:41 AM in response to PatrickGSR94by jimbabka,I agree about the battery being the main culprit. After enduring early shut downs for months, mine had gotten to the point where it would go from 45% down to 1% instantly. I took it to the Apple Store Monday (I have AppleCare), and they found it was bad when they tested it. The battery was replaced, and my iPhone 4S works perfectly after that.

Jun 2, 2014 8:08 AM in response to jimbabkaby InspectorJon,For what it is worth my 4s is having the same exact issue of giving a low battery reading and shutting down only to find it has a high charge when the charger is plugged in or just shutting down like it has a low battery when there is more than 20%. The phone is running on the original OS and has never been updated.

Jun 2, 2014 8:35 AM in response to InspectorJonby PatrickGSR94,I just exhausted my iP5 completely on Saturday for the first time since installing the new battery. Around 10:30 PM it said 2% left and I had a 20 minute drive home. Played music from the phone the whole time, and when I got home it said 1%. I used the phone for another 15-20 minutes before it shut down completely. When I plugged it in, it said it had about 8.5 hours of usage that day, since the last full charge Saturday morning.
So I would say the new battery is a complete success.

Jun 2, 2014 10:03 AM in response to PatrickGSR94by imagineadam,That's great news! I have a few questions if you don't mind.
1. Where did you get the battery?
2. How would you describe your usage? (25-50% brightness? Light web browsing? Lots of music with the screen off? Primarily on wifi? Ect.)
3. What is the ambient temperature that you have been operating your phone in?

Jun 11, 2014 1:03 AM in response to jimbabkaby stealthyaroura,Yeah I had this shutdown fault from new on my 5s I got in September, after sending it back to apple 3 times the fault remained so it was defiantly a fault with the phone and not software related. I finally got the phone replaced for free at the apple store and the new handset is perfect.
I'm pretty sure there is a faulty batch of 5s phones with dud chips or defective battery's cos this is a pretty common fault if you google it. Apple need to get to the bottom of this fault cos it's frustrating as ****.
Change your handset cos no amount of rebooting or software will cure this fault

Jul 8, 2014 11:04 PM in response to sathesbeby WozzaD,I Had been putting up with this problem for 3 months. I tried most if these to no avail. I spent £6 on a new battery and that solved it straight away. If you're a bit tetchy do it yourself.

Jul 23, 2014 9:56 AM in response to MRicci1234by enesurrey,I have just got the problem with my iphone5 randomly dying, I have had it 15 month and regularly backup weekly but just 4 days ago started getting the problem; I upgrade to IOS 7.1.2 only a couple of weeks ago and have restored back to the previous upgrade 7.0.2 (inc firmware restore) and still got the random dying issue. I have also noticed poor battery performance for about the last six months, can anyone advise before I splash out on a new battery?
thanks

Aug 1, 2014 8:36 PM in response to enesurreyby gail from maine,What do you mean you restored it back to the previous 7.0.2? There is no way to do that without jailbreaking your device, and if you have done that, then any and all issues may be a result of having done that. There is no way to tell, and your phone can no longer be supported by Apple or anyone on this site.
Sorry,
GB

Aug 1, 2014 8:38 PM in response to MarcianoKenzoby gail from maine,Have you tried resetting the device: Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears. Once the Home screen redisplays, see if the issue is resolved.
Cheers,

Aug 5, 2014 12:48 PM in response to erostroby Pedro Hotte,HI guys. I was having the same problem as many of you. My screen would change color and the iphone 5 would randomly turn off. That would happen very often. What I did to solve the problem was changing the battery. It seems that this problem is caused by a bad battery so simply by changing it to a new one would get your phone to function properly again. I am not having problems anymore and you could get a new battery for only 6 dollars. Changing the battery is easy and should take no longer than 10 min.
Hope I could help.
