Q: iPhone 5 with iOS 7 randomly shuts off

Are any of you aware of iOS 7 randomly shutting down iPhones? Ever since I upgraded 2 day ago it has shut down at least 3 times. The battery was at about 18%, 20%, and 36% when it shut down.  I don't believe it’s a bug with the battery percentage because it started back up as soon as hit the power button.  Also, it is not due to overheating or anything else wrong with the environment.  Nothing in the environment has changed except that I updated to iOS 7.  Let me know if this occurs to anyone else and if there are any solutions pending?

Indeed i think something in ios7 triggered it. My battery cycles was around 290. App refresh was switched off (always have been switched off at my iPhone - so that was not the problem with me). I let it replace in Rotterdam where i live in the iphonekliniek.nl they replaced it with an original one (10 minutes work).

But it stays strange, but i think it has something to do with the battery cycles (and probably software). But at some points it switched it self of three times behind. And a phone should work not matter what, and i didnt want my phone to run my life (it should be the other way around). :-)

I narrowed my issue down. If I shake the phone it turns off. This phone is a piece of crap. Replaced it 3 times already since December 2012.

Had no issues with the 3GS...phone was a tank....the iPhone 5 on the other hand.....soo disappointed in this phone.

Found the solution - Android. The iphone is a useless relic.

Yes I totally agree I had the samsung note 2 before I got my iPhone 5 the one and only reason I sold it and bought this one was it was just to big in my pocket. My wife still has hers and loves it. I'm going to sell my iPhone and get the new galaxy S.

I actually did manage to get my phone fixed when I restored my iPhone from the last sink.

But the battery still ***** bad with the new ios7 update.

I mean my gosh my battery life was better on my 4 by far.

iphone5 - six months old, 7 days of Powering off Randomly, getting the battery symbol, plugging power back on and random power level between 20% to 70%, Called O2 my phone provider they talked to apple who have never heard of this issue - wow, I am on ver 7.03, (happened since 7). apple wanted my phone for 5 days. blah blah blah

I popped down to an apple store (walk in) no appointment. waited 3 mins to be seen by their roving trouble-shooter.

    Connected to Apple wifi

trouble-shooter connected to my iphone5 via her ipad

    Ran diagnostics

showed battery was the issue (red zone on the chart on the ipad)

    replaced battery in 10 mins

working perfectly for 2 days now

Same problem here. Thinking about going to the Apple Store this week-end, but here's what iBackupBot showed me :

    Battery

    CycleCount: 286

    DesignCapacity: 1430

    FullChargeCapacity: 1230

    Status: Success

It looks good on paper but in theory the phone is trash.

So I've had this issue for a while

Went to Apple store abs they checked it's not the battery and straight away gave me a replacement phone. I suggest you book a reservation online at your nearest apple store and get them to look at it. I've had this issue since iOS 7 update. 3 updates later it was still happening. You will go crazy waiting for a big fix thru apple. Get a new phone. They will replace it

I had about the same number of cycles also around the 280. But the problem (i knock it off) did not came back after replacing the battery. I think there is just a faulty battery serie on the iPhone 5 just like the iPhone 5S.

I'm having the same problem.  I'll have around 40% and then I'll pull up something, a webpage, a game, or youtube, and boom....down to 1%. Then it shuts off.  And then as soon as I plug it in it has 39% battery.  What gives?!!! I'm posting to apple support now.  But I'm chiming in with my frustration.  I just disabled bold text and app refresh.  I'll keep you posted.

Yes same thing happens to me.  Wait 5 min and it the power on button and it will boot back up.  Sometimes you see the image telling you to plug it in but it will boot up, just keep trying it.  My phone never did this before ios 7.

after disabling bold text and app refresh I thought it was going well.  Today it has been burning through the battery again.  Not quite as fast but faster than before

I spoke too soon.  I was down to about 50%, when I went into Music to download some of my favorite playlists and songs.  I pressed download on 2 playlists and 5 extra songs and boom! It shut down.  This is not a battery thing.  This is a software thing.

    Argh!
