Useless icons on Safari page.

There is no default home page so it's not clear what Safari page you're referring to. Perhaps you turned on syncing Safari bookmarks in iCloud settings and it's picking something up from there. A screen shot would probably help.

iOS 7 itself doesn't serve andy web content.

Apple has decided that these are your "Favorites". To delete them, open Safari, tap the book icon, then favorites. From here, tap Edit (at the bottom right), the red dot, confirm the delete, and they will be gone.

Am I missing something? I opened Safari, tapped on the open book--but I don't see Favorites.

Found it. Tap left arrow to left of Bookmarks.

Thank you to everyone on here took me a long time to remove those 4 icons, as couldn't find the favourite/edit button together. Kept trying and have now sorted. Not had I pad long and much prefer the previous version

Thank you for help - I also got rid of those icons thanking to your advice. I would appreciate your advice on how to return to previous version of ipad icons - even at the cost of coming back to ios6.
