iOS 7/iTunes 11.1 sync issues

I've been having several problems trying to sync things. Before the update, I had added two songs to my library and after the update I tried to put them on my iPad but nothing worked. I managed to sync, again, but when I wanted to add more music, I experienced the same problem. And it has taken nearly half an hour for "Waiting for changes to be applied" to go away, if at all (I've gone out shopping multiple times and come back to a restarted sync at only 100 songs).

I've wiped the music off of my iPad twice and also reset all settings and I'm in the middle of adding all of the music back a 2nd time. I have +9000 songs in my library, but even then iTunes says it's syncing a completely wrong number (let's say I have 9000 songs, the sync says it's 8998), and I've had three alerts saying "We can't sync this song" in this attempt (happened to me twice in my first re-sync attempt). I didn't have any of these problems with iOS 6.1.3 or the previous stable version of iTunes. I am now sitting here for another day and a half to add everything back onto my iPad, with at least 5 songs mysteriously absent.

What am I to do if these songs won't sync if I unplug and reset and do everything again?

Also, I've noticed that "Group by Album Artist" will not work at all in iOS 7. It was previously working on my iPad, but all of the song orders were messed up if one song in the album was by another musician; e.g. if track 1 was by Queen, track 2 by Bon Jovi, and track 3 by Journey the order would be 2, 3, 1. The "reset all settings" fixed this but now it's "Group by Album Artist" feature isn't working. When I called Apple Care about this when it was affecting my iPhone they just said "Oh, it's a feature we may have taken out".

It's ridiculous that after three months (or how long has it been?) they still haven't resolved the issue and, hey, Apple, if you're listening, fixing serious glitches are sort of more important than designing a new look for some buttons on the iPhone etc.

So, my version of the stupid bug is this:

There was only once when iTunes screwed up sync of music on my iPhone 5. I connected it to computer (I have the "automatically sync.." option checked), iTunes synced everything just fine, then right after the last step it restarted sync all over again. And when doing it, it ignored all of the music already on the iPhone (about 3000k+ songs, just more than half the storage space) and started copying music again. When I noticed what was going on, iTunes had already filled up all available space and was crying for help ("no more space available" etc.).

The first thing that came to my mind was uncheck "sync music", let it remove all the songs and then recheck it again. It helped. Never happened again.

That was, I think, in the first days of iOS7.

Now, I just recently bought iPad Air, and the very first time I connected it to my computer, set it up as a new device and iTunes (latest version) was syncing stuff on it, the very same problem happened again (it restarted sync right after it ended and was creating second copies of music on the iPad).

I stopped sync and did the same thing I did when it happened to my iPhone. Only this time it didn't help.

Ever since (tried this three times I think), iTunes starts sync, "finishes" sync (although it only copied about 400+ songs out of the 3000+ in library), then immediately restarts it, then very quickly a message pops up - "starting sync failed".

Syncs photos and podcasts just fine though. For now..

Restarting iPad, iTunes and computer already hasn't helped.

Oh, and along the way it created about 8GB of "other" content on the iPad. I suspect it's those broken bits of songs?..

Also, I've learned it's not the volume that baffles iTunes (30GB+ is not that much after all): after that first time, I decided to at least sync photos (about 3GB) and all other stuff (I don't have movies/TV shows on iTunes). So when I unchecked "sync music", the sync loop would never end either - it synced and synced and synced (never recopying anything though) until I noticed that, stopped it manually and unplugged iPad.

So tonight I'm going to reinstall iTunes, restore iPad and see what happens. Will post an update.

All right, so I'm still trying to figure out the constant re-syncing of my iPad and here's what's changed after I, as I asid in my previous post, reinstalled iTunes and restored iPad:

Nothing.

Nothing changed.

Music got copied onto ipad the first time I synced it (auto-sync off, manually sync music off). iTunes didn't restart sync that first time, so I thought thank god! it worked. But the next time I connected ipad to PC, iTunes would restart sync all over again. It wasn't copying anything to ipad because I'd turned on manual sync of music and I don't have anything else (photos are still okay).

Sooo my conclusion is, if the problem on your device is sync constantly restarting, reinstalling iTunes and restoring the device doesn't help.

If anybody has the same problem and/or has an idea how to solve it, I'll be so grateful!!

The way I'm dealing with it now is keeping manual sync of music on, turning off sync of podcasts (it automatically downloads stuff, so no need for transfering data via usb).

Basically, turning the whole sync with PC option off. Everything is being kept in order thanks to photo stream, autodownloads of podcasts and icloud for personal stuff.

I'm not sure how I'm going to deal with the problem of syncing of music though. I suspect it will try to add it all over again at some point in the future.

The new IOS 7 update definitely screwed up my songs - everytime I connect to Itunes, it constantly deletes songs I want and add songs I don't want. To make matters worse, the ordinary right-left wipe to get the delete button is unavailable on some songs you want to delete so it's chewing up my memory. I've searched google for an answer to this problem and plenty of people agree this is a serious bug. I cannot believe Apple did not test this adequately before shipping IOS 7.

the exact same thing with me! it says a bunch or crap and then it will say "waiting for changes to be applied" forever then it will just go away and the screen at the top will be blank. i dont have a problem with the itunes music that ive bought, it's just that every cd that i synced onto my itunes account wont sync to my phone no matter how many times i reset anything

Don't bother with the new iTunes 11.1.4. I downloaded today thinking it would fix our problems. I checked the sync my entire music library and it totally crashed my computer. I have spent the last 5 hours manually syncing back my playlists.

C'mon Apple! It's been 3 months. If you can't fix our music sync, can you bring back Steve Job's to get the company back on track? I would assume 6 Billion dollars could do a lot of things. Fixing a simple sync with the IOS that YOU forced on me with the new iPhone 5 is YOUR problem!

Yep, the new iTunes version you mentioned AJ is very instable on my Win7-32 system, too. It crashed several times yesterday. Till now it seems to work. Haven't tested sync yet, as i spent too much time already.

@666meow: when it hangs at the end of the sync while "waiting for changes to be applied" or similar message, in my case this behaviour stopped, when I simply restarted my iPhone turning it off and on. It than syncs my other stuff except music fine.

I'm also having a similar problem. Every time I purchase a new song or new album or whatever, my phone doesnt like to sync with itunes even after restoring it, taking all the music off and putting it all back on. Syncing has become extremely unreliable and theres nothing i know of that will fix it. Syncing does absolutely NOTHING when trying to transfer something from my Mac to my phone. LIke today i was trying to transfer an episode of American horror story to my phone so i could watch it in the car. Well after several sync sessions, it did nothing. NOTHING! This is getting really frustrating because now, it is taking music OFF of my phone and wont put it back. It's getting really bad. Its like itunes has a mind of its own and will not do what you tell it to do. It used to be very reliable and even a little enjoyable to sync my ipod or my phone or whatever to my computer and watch it load up in a matter of seconds. Not anymore. Maybe ill have to take it to an apple store or something where they can sit down with me and help me figure out what to do because this is about the third time in the past few months I've had this problem.

I've had this problem for ages and its been driving me mad - finally fixed it tonight - it seemed to be a clash between the purchased playlist on my itunes vs the purchased playlist on my iphone. If I unselected the purchased playlist on itunes the sync worked! I then deleted the purchased playlist from the iphone and resynched the playlist from itunes and it has all worked - happy days!

I've had this problem for weeks and it's getting worse, happening more often. I go to add a song or change something through itunes, and suddenly it freezes, and when I try to play a song the little ⚠ comes up. Suddenly 90% of my music is not on my iphone anymore. It's happening almost every other time I try to sync my phone now. And I have to unplug it and plug it back in over and over again until it starts resynching my music (whatever makes it work again seems to be arbitrary). And then wait for ALL my music all 3351 songs to resync. And then the next time I try to do something I don't know if I'm going to go through the whole process again. This is driving me MAD. COME ON APPLE!

Hi!

The same thing has been happening to me for the past 2 days. The last time I synced with itunes and it actually worked, only half of my music would play on my iphone. The rest just skipped. After I updated itunes, the sync wouldn't work at all. I would get the 4 Steps, and then it would say "Finishing Sync", and the sync would end, only to revert back to having no music on my phone.

I tried everything that anyone suggested--restarting, reinstalling, letting it sit and wait--everything.

Then I found this article, and I tried the different things it said to, and I just got everything to sync. Here's what I did. I first went into itunes, (with my phone connected) and I went to the "On This Phone" tab. I checked to see if it showed that I had any songs, and it said no. Then I went back into my computer library, and every song that I wanted to add to my phone, I dragged and dropped it onto my phone. (I clicked on the song (or playlist, etc), dragged it to the right, and to the "Add To" column, where my phone was at the top).

After that, I went back to the "On This Phone" tab, and checked to see if my music was listed there. It was, and below the music was a "removal" button.

Then I went to the Summary tab, and I scrolled down until I could see my options. In options I had "automatically sync" and "sync with wifi" checked, along with "sync only checked songs and music". I unchecked the last one, and checked "manually manage music and videos". I clicked the "apply" button at the bottom, and once the data was updated, I then clicked sync,

This time, instead of 4 Steps, there were only 3. On the third step, after it said "Waiting for copying to begin", it started to sync my music. I could see each song as it was being synced, and now they are all on my iphone.

I hope that this can work for you as well...I had tried everything else and had grown increasingly frustrated each time! Below is the article that I found that helped me finally get it all to work.

Thanks!
