Q: No Sound with Texts after iOS7 Update

After updating my iPhone 4 to iOS7 I have no sound for incoming texts when my phone is sleeping.  All other sounds ok.  Tried my alarm with phone asleep and it works.  Music plays after going to sleep.  Haven't noticed anything else not working.  When I wake up my phone the text message is there, but, no sound when it came.

iPhone 4, iOS 7, Help Please

I have the same problem with mine, before the update it worked perfectly!

Now I can only listen to music, watch videos and be able to hear them with my headphones in!

My phone also doesn't play any sound when I get a txt message anymore, it only vibrates, but weirdly wnough when I get a call I can hear the ringtone and my alarm also works.

Another problem which i've recently discovered is when i'm listening to my music and I come out of it by pressing the home button, when I then click to go back into my music the song skips a few minutes back or jumps to something completely different! Very frustrating especially if you're really into it!

So, I went to the Genius bar only to be told that it was probably to do with water damage or somehow getting damp (I've always had a cover on it which protects all orifices and have never got it near any moisture!) and the ios 7 update would have had nothing to do with it.

I was also infomed the there was no sound working because the phone thought it was permanently docked and because my phone was out of warranty (literally by about a week or so) I would have to pay well over £110 to replace it, money I just don't have :'(

It is quite easy to accidentally switch on Do Not Disturb (the moon symbol) from the drag up Control Centre which is also abailable from the lock screen.

that isn't going to enable one to be alerted when receivng texts.  I got mine to work, but can't remember what it was I had to do.  Found it in an earlier post.  Had to change my sounds back, too

This solved my problem.  Do Not Disturb was on.  I went to Settings | Do Not Disturb and slid the "Manual" button from right (green) to left.

Yep - this solves the problem - Settings>Do Not Disturb>Manual  <- Make sure the toggle button for manual is turned off and life should be good.   You can enable this Do Not Disturb to be easily, and easily by mistake if you pull up the settings screen from the bottom of your phone screen. The 4th symbol to the right on the top is a partial moon and if you touch this it will toggle Do Not Disturb to be on.

I tried everything suggested here. Then I asked a friend that has one and it rurns out there is a lock on the left side of the phone, at the top. If it shows red, the text alert won't work. Just by sliding it to the right was all it took. It now works just fine and I get my texts.

I found a solution to this, which is really simple - it worked for me, maybe it'll work for you too.

Hold in the lock button and home button for a few seconds until the phone restarts itself.

Once restarted, your notifications and sound may be back. Like I say, it worked for me, fingers crossed it solves your problem too

After 3 months of no sound, and trying EVERYTHING suggested on these pages, I have finally fixed the problem!

I bought an iPhone 4S USB charging port dock block connector for under a fiver off eBay, and got a friend to remove my old one and put the new one in, just by following a video on youtube!

I tried cleaning the docking port as suggested, blowing in it, using compressed air, switching the do not disturb button on/off, restarting/rebooting, asjusting every single bloody setting on the phone and I even took it to the genius bar (who weren't much help) just wanted me to pay over £100 for new part)

Turns out the red indicator was on which means it's water damaged (even though I never take my phone into the bathroom and even have a special case for my phone which protects the docking area).

But now my phone works perfcetly, I have a ringtone, message tone and other alets and I can listen to music and watch videos now without having to have my headphone in...YIPPEEE! I cannot tell you how happy I am!!

Surely apple should design a phone that doesn't get water damaged so easily???

    Anyway, hope this helps you!

Okay, I have an iphone 5S, no msg tone working, tried everything above. I have found the problem!!! I turned bluetooth off. Apparently bluetooth goes to sleep and so kills the tone. When I turned bluetooth back on the msg tone started working again. I think to avoid you missing out on future msg alerts, probably best to have bluetooth switched on, ONLY when you need it.

I hope this helps everyone who didn't find their answer in this discussion.

Iphone 4s user and have been having the same problem for several weeks.  Just text message notifications.  Very frustrating.  It is not the 'do not disturb', volume button, water damage, or any such thing.  I have reset the phone numerous times.  I have chosen different sounds.  It is driving me crazy.  I use my phone for work and I am now constantly having to look at it to see what I have missed.

    Seriously, Apple??

I have an IPhone 5 and this is my problem.. If I am looking something up on Google or even safari if I copy a phone number and go into text message, I have no sound at all..even the the sound that the keyboard makes when you type doesn't work..and if I go back to Google to do more searching and if that number texts me back it just notifies me in the notification bar up top the text tone dpesd not play...does anyone know if that's just something new with Google cause basically that's the only time this happens is when I'm on the internet
