Q: No Sound with Texts after iOS7 Update

After updating my iPhone 4 to iOS7 I have no sound for incoming texts when my phone is sleeping.  All other sounds ok.  Tried my alarm with phone asleep and it works.  Music plays after going to sleep.  Haven't noticed anything else not working.  When I wake up my phone the text message is there, but, no sound when it came.

Thanks this solved my problem. I have been trying for quite awhile to figure out what the problem was. The update must have changed this setting, because I've never used that feature.

Turning off Bluetooth fixed the problem. I can only assume the bluetooth must have paired with something but only the Text Message notification and Video Audio could not be heard. Every other sound was fine.

    Hi all,

I had a problem with my text and typing sounds shutting off (only worked with headphones) that I blamed on the update, but after researching for quite a while, (thanks for making things so easy, Apple - grrrr!) one user suggested cleaning out the headphone jack with a q-tip (pull the excess cotton off until it fits). This did the trick, so if I can save anyone else some time, I'm happy to be of service.

This solution worked for me. My iPhone went spastic for a minute or two, beeping for every text I've received for the past two weeks. But after that, it worked like it should.

You may have something here with 9.02. My Do Not Disturb function is only for night time but the 'Silence' setting was changed to "Always"! Changed it to "Only while iPhone is lock..." and now I get my messages notification correctly while the screen is off!  Hopefully I don't get message notification at night time and if so back to the drawing board!!

This was it! Thank you! Do Not Disturb had been turned on. If your phone has a crescent moon at the top, your Do Not Disturb setting is on!

To turn off follow these directions.

Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

What fixed my issue was turning off my auto do not disturb overnight and going back to manually setting it, and going into the sound settings and selecting the tones again - they showed as blank when I initially went into the settings (had previously been set on the old phone for calls and tri-tone for message alerts)

Wow! That was it.  Somehow I turned on do not disturb. I don't know how but after turning it off everything is back to normal! Thanks

    Settings -> Notifications -> Messages

then allow sound for messages there

(assuming the Settings -> do not disturb -> manual is off)

In iOS7, look and see if there is a crescent moon icon over by the battery icon.
If there is, it means do not disturb has been turned on, which is easy to do due to the slide up control page.
The slide up page has airplane mode, wifi, bluetooth on and off, brightness and volume controls, and
also has the crescent moon ("Do Not Disturb")  icon at the top center right. Very easy to turn on (or off) by accident.
This turns off some notifications when the phone is locked.

My iPhone is an iPhone4 with iOS7. Hope this helps.

I read many boards and found close to 10 solutions, none of which worked. My son figured it out.  I had my iPhone connected to my iPad, with the iPad's iMessage turned on.  I turned off the iMessage on the iPad and now the text tone works on my phone.  The issue seems to be created by linking your phone to iMessager on another apple device.
