With the new OS, the installed/updated apps will stay in a list. Open means the update has downloaded, but they will be sorted by date to let you know what has updated. It isnt something that you can turn off.
So in a years time we could have a list with thousands of icons, this does not seem to be correct, Apple would need to change this so when you are happy about your updates you can have the ability to remove from the list.
This is so minor, but is driving me absolutely crazy! It is so annoying!

It has been said that they only persist for about a week. However, as iOS 7 has not been out for that long, it's not possible to verify.
Good point, we will have to wait and see, it's a pity Apple has not produce an IOS7 PDF Manual (I have looked but unable to find one) then at least we called see what the definitive answer is, not only to this issue but quite a few that have been highlighted in other threads on IOS 7.

You mean like this one?
http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
Best of luck.
Thank you, will have some bed time reading (how sad).

Well, as manuals go, Apple does a pretty good one.
Any joy? it's really bugging!!!!
Actually I am beginning to like them there, if you do not like to see them the easiest solution is to go to Settings > iTunes & App Store > Automatic Downloads and turn them off.
Agree. Very annoying. It's also annoying that automatic update also does not work on any of my iOS devices, even though automatic updates does not actually work. I still have to update apps manually.
I am curious who said that this list persists only for a week. I'm also curious what value a list of updated apps adds to my use of my iOS devices. I do need to know when apps are NOT up to date because I might need to take action, but the only action I can take on already updated apps is to open them. I prefer to do that from the application icon.
Unfortunately, that does not work.
I just opened a ticket about this problem with Applecare

If you have AutoUpdate enabled and then want to know what changed, you need to have access to the list which has the release notes for each app. I find it extremely useful.
