Q: Updating my ATV3 to 6.0 -> Error 1611

Tried to update my ATV3 to 6.0 just a couple of minutes ago, and after it "updated", it told me connect to iTunes which I found weird, specially 'cause I needed a cable the product didn't bring, but anywho, I had one, and did so. After I plugged it in, I clicked on "Restore Apple TV..." which told me it would download and install the new version update. I went for it, but then it got stucked at "Preparing Apple TV for restore..." and after a couple of minutes I got this "unknown error (1611)", which didn't explain anything, and I can't use my ATV now. Can anybody help me please?

    My problem is solved.  I had a micro USB cable and was unable to get it restored. I took it in the apple store and they were able to restore it.  They believe it was my cable.  So if it is a old cable which mine was that might be your problem.

    I just attempted to Update my Apple TV to 6.1, received the iTunes icon on my television.  So I went ahead and plugged it in to my Mac Mini with a random Micro USB cable I found, I found 2 but chose the one with a large gauge.  Kept getting 1611 error, and Apple advised mutliple troubleshooting steps that did not help.  Then I stumbled across this post and I switched to a shorter thinner Micro USB Cable and BAMM!!, Apple TV updated.

    Thank you!

    I can also confirm this works.  The first cable I tried was a PS4 cable that goes to the PS4 controller to charge it.  It connected to iTunes but the restore failed multiple times, always at the same spot.  I switched to my HTC One cable that came with my device (which is much shorter, btw) and it worked on the first try.

    Maybe it has something to do with the length of the cable???  Not sure.

    My experience with this same issue with two A1378 models was one model worked with power and USB and other would only work with just USB, also six seconds of menu down arrow and then 6 seconds of menu and play.
