Updating my ATV3 to 6.0 -> Error 1611

Tried to update my ATV3 to 6.0 just a couple of minutes ago, and after it "updated", it told me connect to iTunes which I found weird, specially 'cause I needed a cable the product didn't bring, but anywho, I had one, and did so. After I plugged it in, I clicked on "Restore Apple TV..." which told me it would download and install the new version update. I went for it, but then it got stucked at "Preparing Apple TV for restore..." and after a couple of minutes I got this "unknown error (1611)", which didn't explain anything, and I can't use my ATV now. Can anybody help me please?

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Your update failed, so it had you plug it in to a computer to restore it. More than likely you will have to wait a day or so. If you have not noticed there are a lot of posts about problems connecting to Apples servers. Between the ATV update, iOS7 update and the iPhone release today Apple's servers are a bit over loaded.

Yes, I too got the same problem. At the end it showed a picture looks like connect to the ITunes.

Light on Apple TV is still blinking. Not sure what to do.

Make sure your itunes is version 10.5 or better that should clear the error.

And yes... I'm bricked too. It's Friday night and I was so excited to curl up on the couch with my wife and watch a movie. Great job, Apple. And who uses micro USB anyway? While you're fixing this please also fix the stupid childish colors on IOS 7 - offer two icon themes please.

Any andriod phone charger cable will fit the back of the ATV and sync to your itunes account.

I'm with the same issue here. When you connect to iTunes and start restore mode, iTunes starts to download ATV firmware from Apple. In my case, it's about 800 mb, with a expecting time of "only" 6 hours.

Why done, I tell you if it works! No movies for today on ATV...

I have the same issue as well. I have the latest version of iTunes 11.1. Restarted my PC a few times already but nothing seems to be working. This is so frustrating!!!

Same here. Tried to update ATV, told to connect to iTunes via MicroUSB (who knew?) then proceeded to download update and derped out. Tried updating iTunes and re-starting my computer with no luck.

After finishing the download and the precess of restoring, my Apple TV is alive again! The update using iTunes already update my ATV to version 6.0! Now everything is working fine. Don't forget do unplug power cord to force a reboot after the update on iTunes.

I don't think any of the lastest comments read my post... I DID plug the ATV to my MBP, but when I hit restore it gets stucked in a loop and then unknown error 1611 comes up. I tried everything but calling an Apple Store because there aren't any in my country, and now I'm stucked with something that doesn't work anymore. Can't even begin to describe how frustrated and disappointed I am towards Apple.

If possible, take it to an Apple Store and ask if you can restore it using one of their floor model Macs. That is what finally worked for me, after repeatedly getting the 1611 error at home. Take your micro USB cable with you.

I will refrain from commenting on the service received at the store, as Apple is blocking my comments of that nature on this forum. Just be persistent. Good luck!
