Can't change scratch disk or even safe project STP2

Soundtrack stops and needs a force quit when trying to change default scratch,edit or recording location, or even when I'm trying to safe project - but it records properly - tested on a voice over. I would leave it like that and work on default settings if it safe my work - but not. What to do?

Never happend before.

OS 10.6.8 all updates done.
