will a blocked caller get my voicemail and be able to leave a message?

The User Guide or the support document do not address this. The closest thing is it saying the calls and messages would not be accessible. I would say try it once to see, since I cannot find anything in writing about it.

In AppleInsider's tests of the feature, blocking an individual on an iPhone almost instantly added them to the blocked list on an iPad mini, and vice versa. Placing a call from a number that has been blocked will result in that call being forwarded to voicemail.

Yes, it goes to voicemail, but the document clearly states:

Note:Voice and text messages from a blocked contact will not be accessible.

Which is exactly what happens, they may leave a voicemail, but you will not know they called or that there is a message.

Tested it personally myself.

I read that part. I was not trying to start an argument, I was just indicating it was not clear if it went to voicemail or not. There have been several questions like this. I suggested the OP test it, since the document was not clear about voicemail. I'm glad you tested it, as a number of other posts I have read since this one have indicated they did as well. I can appreciate your due diligence.

I was curious about that little caveat. Seemed to defeat the purpose of blocking if they could just leave you a harrassing message....what would the point of blocking them be?

So, that is most excellent to know that although they may leave a message, you won't have to hear it. With all of the cyber and regular bullying, vengeful ex-spouses, and unscrupulous bill collecters out there, if you don't want to hear from them - that means by any means......

...and just to add an additional tidbit...if you unblock the number that called...(although it took a lil bit) the voicemail did show up in my Visual Voicemail. So that would seem to indicate it may be taking up space on the Carrier's side? THAT I don't know...curiouser and curiouser...

But as gail from mainesaid if they're being blocked for a reason, we'll likely not be unblocking them.

Hello Apple,

You always create some application and don't to its regerous testing properly, why??????

1. Like for messgae blocking - if you block for a particular user, you don't get the message thats correct but the other user who sent you message will certainly get delivery confirmation with time. So, I feel you should not allow other user to get delivery confrimation even. I tested when allow other recepient delivery confirmation is disabled also...

2.For blocking calls - Failing with similar behavoir like IOS6, then other user who call you will hear few rings then busy tone.. Complete pathetic it spoils your relationship with the person whom you blocked as he know when you have blocked it. Better assingn some one to see the code of samsung galaxy sII with android they have perfect than your.

Please improve od some testing before releasing some feature online.

FYI, for Verizon customers, there is a "Call and Message Blocking" feature that allows blocking of up to five numbers. The block expires after 90 days. If you get calls after that, you need to re-block (or just set yourself a reminder to do so). This seems to prevent all access - I have no clue if any of the blocked numbers have called me, and when a number was unblocked, there was no lingering voice mail.

I was able to do this on the Verizon Wireless web site within my account.

Many providers offer services. The Verizon one is free, but they also have a paid version. AT&T offers a paid service as well. True call blocking, to work correctly, occurs at the carrier level, that way the call never gets through.

For AT&T the service is called Smart Limits and lets you block 30 numbers. As JJCraw and ChrisJ4203 said it is something that needs to trully happen on the carrier side because once the call reaches the device the phone can't really respond to stop/block. Blocking it from ringing the phone or leaving a visible voicemail is all that can b done on the phone side.

That is the support document the OP came to the forum from. If you read that, it does not indicate if the call goes to voicemail or what. That is what I indicated in my post.
