Q: avi files on QuickTime

I just upgraded to OS X 10.8.5 and I cannot get QuickTime to play avi files, even though it says they support them. Any suggestions for fixes?

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Try installing Perian or VLC. Some AVIs just can't be played in Mac OS X.
