Ipod erases songs after I eject

A couple of times the "Do not disconnect" screen wouldn't go away after I ejected the ipod on itunes, and after that happened, I had to reboot it and all my songs were gone. A few other times though, the "DND" screen went away and the main menu appeared, and my songs were still erased.

I changed the drive letter on my ipod. I hope that works. Thanks for the help, and I'll let you know how if it happens again.

After I clicked eject, it'd take a long time for the ipod icon on itunes to dissapear.

I just changed the drive letter and connected my ipod. Itunes refused to update it because it didn't recognize its format. I ejected it from itunes, and the DND screen wouldn't go away. Same thing happened again. All songs have been erased.

I figure this could have happened either because of the drive letter being changed, or some other problem.

Now it erases everything every time i disconnect. The DND screen dissapears too. Let me update the software and reformat it, and then see what happens.

Ok after I restored it, everything has been working ok, but this has happened before so, I'm still skeptical.

What doesn't make sense is that I had a 30gb Ipod Video before, and never had any problems like this with it. Now I have a 60gb Ipod Video, and I keep having this problem. If this drive letter thing is the issue, why didn't it happen with my 30gb?

Also, one thing I've noticed happen when I change my ipod settings from automatic update to manual, it gives me an error message saying "An error has occured while updating the default player for audio file types. You do not have enough access priveleges for this operation".

Well, after I let my ipod sit all day adding my songs and videos, I came back to it, and yep, all the songs have disappeared.

Should I send it in to be serviced?

Can anybody help? Please?

No the music in itunes is in my own mp3 directory folder.

I never had problems with my music being there, with my 30gb Ipod Video.
