Q: Apple TV 2 IOS7 upgrade failure

I have tried to upgrade to IOS7, and it has failed!

I am being asked to connect the Apple TV to my Mac using a hdmi to USB cable is there any way I can fix this without the cable as I do not own one?

I have tried a restart but no luck and I have no Plan B.

Anyone able to help?

Thanks Watp, just as Matt, finally I connected the Apple TV to a PC using a micro USB cable and then I restored the Apple TV from iTunes (you have to update the iTunes software as well). It took almost an hour but at the end the Apple TV was alive again and with the new software version which includes iCloud features.

You have to disconnect the power cable in order to the restore is complete, otherwise you still going to see the USB iTunes logos on the screen.

I got the same problem. But when connecting my ApplE TV 2 to my Mac with a micro USB cable, with no power cord as explained in the support pages, it does not appear in iTunes.

    Any idea?

Plug the power in - no idea why they say don't plug it in - no way it will work otherwise

    Hi

Firt, excise my english, it is not my native language.

Please explain me how do you connect the device to a pc.

I can't find any other plug on the apple tv than the network, the optic audio, the hdmi and the power.

I have a 3d gen device, and software v5.3. If i go through the menus, it says is updated and there are no newer versions.

    Thanks for your help

    Hi Nyanyanx,

On the back of your device, just below the HDMI slot is a micro USB slot....

Use a micro USB cable from there to your PC....plug it in, fire up itunes on the PC, and it will connect and go directly to the option to factory reset the device. Once that has completed you will find it has upgraded to 6.0...

    Job done

    Hope that helps

After reading all the issues with the 6.0 upgrade on Apple TV, I've decided not to do it on my ATV3. From what I've found out, the only chnages from the upgrade  are connecting to someone elses's Airplay & the new Itunes radio. Am i missing something? Why jeopardize my Apple TV for that?
