Q: Does anyone's Air Drop not work after upgrading to iOS 7 on iPhone 5?

Fixed my wife and I Airdrop Contact Sharing problem. Assuming all your settings are correct, shutdown your device and reboot. Airdrop contact sharing started working correctly after that.

Correct.  The current implementation is computer-to-computer, or phone-to-phone.

Must I continue to share with my computer by emailing myself files?

Or use one of the umpteen other ways to get at a file from the phone.  Dropbox.  Google Drive.  AirShare.  BTSync if your'e paranoid.  Others.  Take your pick.

Going to have to try and set up an icloud address for her. Right now she just uses a gmail account as her apple id.

My airdrop was working fine. After update ios 7.0.3 it has stopped working. Did few restores but did not help.

For me, having the iCloud address was part of the issue, I had to make sure their phone number was also correct. I had mistyped mine in my phone and my wife's couldn't see me. I did make sure to update both the Me entries with all email addresses and phone numbers and it worked.
