My control center won't open when I swipe up as instructed

Just loaded ios7 on my iPhone 4 and the control center doesn't open consistently when I swipe up as instructed. Is there a setting that affects it's sensitivity than I could change? Swiping down works every time though...

Thanks macgasman. Swiping fast was the ticket for me. I've also found that the angle of MY swipe is a factor. If I swipe over the APP on either the bottom right or left of phone, i seem to have more success than if I swipe the over the APPs just immediately above the HOME button. In the former, I end up using the side(s) of my thumb. In the latter, its the thumb print. Actually, it may have something to do with how MUCH of your finger's SURFACE AREA touches the screen. Seems like I naturally use less of my thumb's surface area when i reach for the left or right sides of the screen. In fact, as I type, my quick test shows that using my "baby" finger seems to have the most consistent success. I guess time will tell.

I'm going out on a limb that this problem is more likely to occur for males (who statistically have larger hands/fingers) than females.
