May 28, 2014 8:38 AM in response to jckinnickby Kumarchooi,This is a good tip, Rob.
"Note that if you do not have a passcode assigned to your iPhone or iPad in the first place, potential thieves already have access to your device and can restore it with a fresh install of iOS"
However, my understanding is that, if Find My iPhone" is enabled, restoring an iPhone with a fresh install of iOS 7 is not possible unless the thief has access to the user's Apple ID password. Right?
If so, you might want to consider clarifying this benefit of Find My iPhone in this article.
"You can’t restore the device using iTunes. iTunes will inform you that the device cannot be restored as Find my iPhone is on. So you need to first turn off Find my iPhone, which as we mentioned earlier, will prompt you to enter the Apple ID password, and then restore the device using iTunes."

May 28, 2014 9:30 PM in response to jckinnickby cs357,I too was having this problem with one of my devices. I resolved it temporarly by deleting all the playlists off the device. Then I opened up the music app and selected songs. I then downloaded all the songs that were listed from the cloud. Once I finished that, I turned off the show all music option under settings ->music like previous posts stated. I then went back to the songs that I downloaded from the cloud and deleted each song individually on the device. I then downloaded my playlists again from itunes. I do believe that they will reappear again if I turn back on the show all music option again. Kind of a long process but it appears to have worked.

Jun 2, 2014 6:40 PM in response to jckinnickby jwd630,Wow; this is so painful. Finally, what worked for me (who does not use iTunes Match) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4919
- Go to the iTunes Store.
- Click Purchased from the Quick Links section on the right side of the iTunes Store.
- Click the X to hide the unwanted "purchase" (one of those not so great free ones in my case.)
Gone, finally, after many other attempts.
Why is this so hard Apple? Why won't 'deleting' an iCloud item on the iPhone simply hide the purchase?

Aug 7, 2014 9:01 AM in response to jckinnickby danielmcshane,I just managed to get rid of 3-4 annoying songs stuck on my iPhone 4S playlist. I HAVE to share my new-found knowledge cos I hated all of those songs and felt very frustrated that they wouldn't delete so easily. This will hopefully help.
Plug in your iPhone to your computer, and then:
(1) In iTunes, go to Store and make sure you are logged in. Go to the 2nd last option which will say something like "View Account (username@email.com)". It will ask you to enter your password.
(2) A dark menu bar appears along the top, and the first menu is a little Home symbol. Press it.
(3) You should now be in the iTunes Store with a set of Quick Links on the right. Follow the quick link that says "Purchased".
(4) You have now found the holy grail: the area with the delicious little X-shaped HIDE/DELETE button next to the songs/albums (I'm sure a quick glance at the menus will guide you as to how to get rid of stuff you don't want, be they songs or videos or books).
At a later stage, if you want to restore something you have hidden (technically it doesn't delete but rather hides the stuff), you can repeat steps (1) and (2) above, but then just read the stuff under the 2nd subheading and you'll see where you can unhide the items.
Please spread the word if this is what you are after...it took SO long to find.........

Because it's not a playlist, it is simply the history of your purchases and history doesn't (or shouldn't) change. And (as you have found) you can't delete things from your history, you can only hide them.

music is not stored in iCloud that is why its so hard to remove it from there. Also on a side note asking Apple anything here will never be answered.
Here’s what iCloud backs up:
- Purchase history for music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books
Your iCloud backup includes information about the content you have purchased, but not the purchased content itself. When you restore from an iCloud backup, your purchased content is automatically downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store. Some types of content aren’t downloaded automatically in all countries, and previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the store. For more information, see the Apple Support article iTunes in the Cloud availability by country. Some types of content aren’t available in all countries. For more information, see the Apple Support article Which types of items can I buy in my country?.
- Photos and videos in your Camera Roll
- Device settings
- App data
- Home screen and app organization
- iMessage, text (SMS), and MMS messages
- Ringtones
- Visual Voicemail
Your iOS device backup only includes data and settings stored on your device. It doesn’t include data already stored in iCloud, for example contacts, calendars, bookmarks, mail messages, notes, shared photo streams, My Photo Stream, and documents you save in iCloud using iOS apps and Mac apps.
