Latest Apple TV upgrade // what is step 2?

I started the latest upgrade. Apple TV indicated the upgrade was a 2 step process and not to unplug Apple TV. It was taking a while so I wasn't paying attention. I briefly saw and image on the screen showing an Apple TV with a USB cord to iTunes. There were no words. Being busy, I came back to find the image gone and Apple TV dead.

Am I to unplug and plug into iTunes? I have never had to do this with any of the other upgrades. Kind of cryptic what to do since Apple said not to unplug during step one... Am I to unplug and plug into iTunes or is something else going on?

Yes...as others have said take to your computer and TRY to restore....TRY is the key word as I have now tried 4 times with 3 different micro USB cords...seems to be working, then when its almost done I get "apple TV could not be restored (1603)" Although the number after the error message differs each time.

For what its worth, we have 4 ATVs, the ATV 2's are the bricked ones, ATV3 worked OK...

HELP??? Do I own a paperwieght now or is there a way to restore I'm not thinking of.
