My iPhone 5 won't charge after iOS 7 upgrade?

Thanks for your reply. I ended up getting a new phone as my old one was still under warranty. I have to say I was very pleased with the service provided by Apple. I had a new phone within 24 hours.

Same thing here. I purchased a new Apple cable from MacMall, got it the next day. Still wouldn't charge the phone. Searching around I found this link: http://thebigboss.org/guides-iphone-ipod-ipad/dfu-mode to reset the phone in DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode. Never saw any action on the phone itself, but the iPhone in iTunes allowed me to Restore From Backup. Sounds scary due to their constant reminders that you'll be losing everything on the phone and have to repurchase all your downloads. Luckily, I'd backed up to the cloud as well as my computer, so I'm pretty sure I'm golden. The restore went without a hitch, I had to go through the complete iPhone setup, but the phone was charging throughout the restore, and EVERYTHING IS THERE!

I don't know if the cable was the problem or not. My wife's phone quit charging last week. Her iPhone5 is three months newer than mine, and that's when I bought two cables, figuring mine would crap out any second. The new cable fixed her problem — FWIW, that old cable wouldn't work on my iPad, either, but the new one does.

Anyway, THIS WORKS! Give it a shot. Be sure to backup to the cloud or your computer first. Naturally, I take no responsibility if the DFU or restore mess up your life completely—I'm just trying to help out!

This solution definitely worked for me! This also explainst why the problem was getting progressively worse!

Also, can't believe how much lint was in there... if any others place the phone in their pocket, be sure to try this.

With a toothpick, GENTLY clean the inside of the connector. I made sure to stick to the top side, since the pins of the connector are on the bottom. Once the cable was able to seat properly in, it worked like a charm!

I am having this issue with original Apple cable but only on PC or car charger. I only recharge using the block or, oddly enough, a battery to go device. This is so annoying! Is there a permanent fix?

BTW I get the lightening bolt in all cases. However, the phone merely drains when connected to any computer (or the car)

The only thing that works reliably for me is to pop out the SIM card while charging. Otherwise, some combination of halfway shutting it down and popping it in when the red slider comes on asking you to shut your phone down comes up (but that is not reliable).

Like other people have said, this whole thing has been a huge, huge disappointment. I will never feel the same about this company's products.

One more thing -- what people have said about lint is no joke. I just took a pin and cleaned out a truly shocking amount of it from the lightning port -- like someone's belly-button after a year! It doesn't change the third party issue (or my feelings about it), but now at least the workarounds work more reliably.

I had same problem on my gf's 5S and my 5S. Fixed hers by cleaning port with dust-off. Fixed mine by removing a big gob of lint with a needle!

er.. correction... somehow that was a tempory fix..... cable now will not work at all. Does not charge, and cannot be used to sync with my MacBook Pro......

Best fix/solution so far - keep it clean!

this may seem strange but if you dont have an official iphone wire i just coloured one side of my connector in with a pencil i guess it just kind of bridged the gap so to say 🙂

My I-5 had the the Same problem, it doesn't trust aftermarket wires. You have to compleatly shut down the phone and charge it while it's off. Stupid right?... That's Apple for you. Or save yourself a headache and go to the apple store any get a real wire.

my iphone 5 doent charge.. it charge only when its closed (dead battery) untul 5% that its open and then doesnt charge again.. what am i suppose to do? plz help!!

Hello. The ios7 upgrade blocks any non-apple certified products from working. There are several options available to you.

First - buy a certified apple cable from apple.

Two - turn the phone off and while the power down logo is spinning plug the cable in and don't turn the phone on. This overrides the self power on feature which turns on the blocking software. Leave your phone off for an hour and it will be charged.
