Q: I can not restore because I can not turn off Find my Iphone

Hello,

I'm using iphone 5 with ios 7. I just upgraded ios 7 today. after upgrade I realised that passcode was activated before upgrade I was not using that feature. I forgot my passcode so I got my phone disabled for a while. I searched the discussions and saw that I need to restore and then restore from back up to have the passcode to disable. When I try to restore my phone I got the below message:

Find My iPhone must be turned off before “Jean” can be restored.

Go to iCloud Settings on your iPhone and turn off Find My iPhone before restoring your iPhone.

I can not turn off Find my Iphone because my phone locked and I forgot the passcode.

Anyone can help?

iPhone 5, iOS 7

No one can help you including Apple. The iPhone is activation locked by the previous owner so you need to get the iCloud account and password from the previous owner to deactivate or return it and get your money back.

you are best man, thanks. you are better than money-craving, low-life apple specialist, who keeps asking for extending warranty.  no more apple product for rest of life.

    DFU mode

    1. Plug your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad into your Mac or Windows PC and make sure iTunes is running.
    2. Hold down both the Sleep Button (on top of your device) and the Home Button (on the front underneath the screen).
    3. Keep them both held down from about 10 seconds. (If you see the Apple logo, you've held them too long and will need to start again.)
    4. Let go of the Sleep Button but keep holding the Home Button for about 5 seconds. (If you see the "Plus into iTunes" screen than you held it too long and will need to start again.)
    5. If the screen stays black, that's it! Your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad should now be in DFU mode.

put your phone in DFU mode and then after installing new ios you can submit your apple id to turnoff find my iphone or find my ipad

    it will be work 100%

He asked that question almost a year ago and the issue was he couldn't remember his Apple ID password.

    It was answered.

Your method would not solve his situation, he would first have to recover the password for his Apple ID. If he did that there would be no reason to put it in DFU mode. If he couldn't recover it your situation wouldn't fix it.

I have treid the exact same steps as you have mentioned but it has not worked for me. I have an IOS 8 beta that has expired and i need to perform a system restore. I cant access the phone until this is done so i cant turn find my iPhone off in order to do it. I have deleted it off of Icloud, rebooted my phone , connected to wi fi and everything but still wont let me restore it when i connect it to iTunes.

    Any Ideas?

I have the same problem, with a little twist. I can not restore my iPhone. The reason I wanted to restore it in the first place is because my iPhone suddenly dropped off my service provider and could not find any wi-fi connections either, even when it should've. Deactivating the "locate my phone" is not going to help here, because it needs an internet connection to work. So, trying to restore the phone is impossible because it still says that I have to deactivate locate my phone (even though it has been removed from my devices). It however cannot be deactivated because my personal apple-id confirmation is needed…and in order to do that, I would need an internet connection….which is why I am restoring the phone in the first place. This is kind of getting out of hand. It's just ridiculous. If someone has a real solution to this problem, go ahead and dazzle me. Reading most of the comments and solutions already given.

Do you also not have cellular? You can turn on Cellular Data for Find My iPhone under Settings>Cellular>Use Cellular Data For>Find My iPhone.

    Cheers,

Just wanted to update my IOS!

It should NOT be this difficult, just been through the mill with this and iTunes error 7 /  Windows error 127 and unbelievably unable to restore error 4005. I have some idea about to fix these problems however it has taken me three hours to get everything back to the way it was. How people with basic IT knowledge get past this I have no idea. Been around Apple since my SE30 however lately I am starting to wonder what is going wrong. Chose a Saturday to do this as my working life is on that phone; that said I am still on call and cannot afford to be down for that length of time. One error perhaps but three and the possibility of ending up with a paper weight at the end of the day!  It’s just not funny.

I would have to say that you have some unusual issues going on there with errors on both the computer and in iTunes. I do not see the iTunes error 7, but this error 4005 is identified and this support document provides troubleshooting. iOS: Restore errors 4005, 4013, and 4014

You might want to check out the Microsoft website for any mention of the Windows error that you reported.

Well not that unusual it would appear

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3720969

Complete uninstalls  / re-installs of ALL Apple software and iPhone restores are very time consuming.

Also lost an audio book along the way.  In hand, however more time wasted. (not allowed to re-download like audible, WHY?)

    Download past purchases

IMHO - Apple rely too heavily on iTunes for basic tasks, integration is great to a point.

The thought of being left with a a paper weight is not a comforting one. Given the amount of traveling I do

I am thinking of switching, Not all countries are Apple friendly and therefore it's difficult to remedy problems when a timely fix is needed.

...and when left with "You must turn off "Find My Phone" to restore,  at this stage my iPhone was a brick!

Lots of answers out there for the above but I would like to see fewer problems leading to less support. Yesterdays mess was a reality check for me.

Been using Apple for some time and obviously there have been problems along the way, it's expected but this is a bit much.

My reply was to another poster, not to you. My statement about unusual had to do with the fact the poster had errors in both iTunes and Windows at the same time, which is unusual. And the number of views of a post is no where indicative of how many people are having issues. If I have an issue and I review a post 20 times looking for a solution, then that is 21 views, but it is still only one person having a problem.

If you do not want to have Find My iPhone on, then turn it off. It is a protective measure to prevent someone that may have stolen your phone from both accessing your data or restoring your phone and using it. There is more than method to turn off Find My iPhone.

I'm sorry you experienced issues, but if you would like to have some help, then ask your question.
