Sorry if this is a stupid, OCD-related question... but I just bought white iPad with Retina and red leather smart cover to go along with it.
I'm thinking about whether or not returning the case, because I read a message somewhere that the interior of the red case can stain the white lining around the edges of the ipad.
Is this something I need to worry about? Or am I just being paranoid?

The iPad is a daily-use product, so such things should be normal. But I never noticed any stain with covers, aluminium isn't a material that has such problems. If you are noticing stain, you normally can clean it without any problems.

I'm not to worried about the aluminium as I am about the front of the iPad, since it's white...

Do you have a Smart Cover or a smart case?
If you have a Smart Cover, I would worry about the aluminium-end causing scratches. I simply put a string adhesive film on the area, where the aluminium of the smart cover is touching the iPad, and it still looks like on the first day I bought it (Belkin Case, Mumbi Screen Protector and original Smart Cover).

The string adhesive film is a very good idea!! I didn't even think of that part getting scratched since I was worried about the interior of the cover staining the white area on my screen or the edges (I don't use a screen protector for the iPad). I'll do that today and thanks for the suggestion!
If you are thinking about putting a screen protector on it, I know a simple trick how to avoid dust under the protector. Go to a room with closed windows, close the door, sit down with the iPad at a table and wait for around 3-5 Minutes without moving too much (while watching tv for example). Most of the dust should be on the floor, and not in the air anymore. Now you can clean the screen of the iPad and put the protector on the screen. Don't worry about trying two or three times, without the dust, you can try much often to get a perfect result. I already put 4 screen protectors on tablets and more than 15 on phones and iPods :-)
The glass shouldn't get stain, it is too slick for the material to stick on the glass.
