Here is a simple way to created the bug.

Make a little 4 bar loop, start recording midi, hold down a note at the end of the loop, as if you want the midi note to be held down until the end of the measure. You will not get what you want, it will instead cut off the last beat of the note region. ********? Yes. Or is my machine the only one this happens on?

Digital Audio G4, Mac OS X (10.4.5), Logic 7.2. Dual 1.8ghz G4, Mackie HR824, MAudio Keystation Pro,Sampletank XL 2.1

That's not a bug. It would be a bug if it held the note inside a loop.

Create a new track under the same instrument (audio or MIDI instrument) and hold your note there.

thanks for the reply however I think you have me mistaken...

It is not a bug if I want to hold a note until the last beat of the measure. Logic doesnt let me do this, it will cut off the last few miliseconds of the note. why would it be a bug to hold the note to the end of the measure?

That is why I think you have me mistaken and I believe this is a bug.

Does the held note end outside of the looped area?

If so, that's why it's not working. And that wouldn't be a bug because it's recording only in the area you told it to.

I dont end the note outside of the looped area, I just hold it down until the end of the measure, thinking I will get a note held until the end of the measure...

If I hold down a note until the end of the measure, or even past, shouldnt it cut the note off right at the end of the measure and not a few millseconds before? I've used other sequencers that handle this perfectly

why not just use the event or matrix editor to adjust the note length. then there would not be an issue. this issue could be because of the arrange preferences you have set, but if you open the matrix and hold control and drag the note out it will let you go to the end of the loop, or you could just tell it to be however long you wanted with the event editor.

hope this answers your question, or at least gives you a work around.

"this issue could be because of the arrange preferences you have set"

I have tried tons of different midi tweaks, ensured my quantization is turned off.

I had requested earlier for someone to test this on a 4 bar loop to see if it only happens on my system.

4 bar loop, towards the end, hold down a note till the end of the measure, does your note really sustain until the end of the measure or does it get cut off a few miliseconds before?

I know and have been editing in the matrix editor, but c'mon now...

Where does it say that the note ends in the event editor? I have been able to sustain notes in loops until the end with no problems.

And, yes, I would know if the note cut out earlier.

Ok, I did the test with recording a sustained note at 120 bpm. In fact, the note is cut off before the end of loop by 1/8 to 1/4 note somehow depending on the start of the sustained note. This can easily be seen in the matrix editor. So I think it's definitely a bug.

I have seen this issue as well. That is why i suggested the work arounds. In the event list, jord can you not set the lenght of a note?

In fact, the event list isn't very helpful to expose the bug.
And obfuscation isn't helpful to make Logic better...

i see. so denying the issue is a better way of helping than to admit there is an issue, and trying to give suggestions on how to fix the problem.
i gave two suggestions on where the orginal poster could verify/fix there problem.
you are the one who is being obfuscation (unintelligible) by trying to talk down to my willingness to help.
so please keep the board clean and do not use words that are going to confuse people even more than logic does.
i know you had to use the dictionary to sound intellegent, but i forgive you.(i guess what i mean by this is using words like obfuscation doesn't prove that you know how to use logic any better than i)

i am not here to make enemies, just to learn and share experiences.

    to add:

you can use the event list to change the lenght of the notes to a specific bar, and if you had read the entire post the original poster admited that they used the matrix editor to verify the issue. both which i suggested.

    Oops! Complete misunderstanding. Sorry.
I was just referring to jord's suggestion to verify the issue in the event list.

i too am sorry for the rude comments. it was late, and i have had a hard time sleeping. please forgive me for acting arrogant. I will edit the post so that it doesn't cause a flame.
