Hey! Looking for a 1 or 2TB HDD to put in my Mac Pro 3,1
Any suggestions? Top tips? Are there any current/modern drives that aren't backwards-compatible? Any good (UK/Europe-based) offers on?
Thanks!
Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Try doing a Google or Amazon search yourself.
Some 3 and 4TB drives have not. Heck you could even use a 1TB Samsung 840 EVO. Probsbly want 7200 rpm and not green types.
Kappy - 'I use *Insert HDD Model No. here' and it's good.' would've been fewer characters. Thanks for going the extra mile though.
Sure, because you wouldn't.
Kappy - Seriously? I came here to see if any fellow mac pro users had any recommendations. You think this was the first place I looked? You've taken the time to reply twice now. Any suggestions? Third time lucky, maybe...
I'd been looking at a WD Caviar Green, so thanks for that. Is it just not worth the power/speed payoff? Not sure what you mean by 'have not'?
Typing on phone, edits get lost... drives larger than 2.2TB were having trouble and would not work. And no on a green drive for work files, but yes for Time Machine. I use a 1.5TH WD Green that way.
What you left off in origina, post can change everything, what I call "playing 20 questions."
Your WD Black 1 or 1.5 or 2TB for general use, or Hitachi and Seagate or Samsungs.
there is also a 1TB WD 10K VelociRaptor for performance for Photoshop's media or even scratch (but not in same league as SSD)
I've got a storage-heavy video project coming up so I'll need more space than any SSD in my price range could provide, unfortunately! It's going to be everyday use, not backup, so I'll steer clear of the green. Thanks for the tip.
A pair of 2TB WD Black then.
Sorry, I wasn't going to bother you again but following your suggestion I went back to Amazon. The WD Black 2TB is £116.00 (US$185.82) but there's a Seagate Barracuda 2TB on offer for £69.25 ($110.93). It seems a pretty obvious choice at first but I've heard Seagate are noisy and more prone to die/arrive on your doorstep already dead. Any thoughts?
