If your method worked so well I wouldn't have posted on here... So take your pointless so called solutions on how to fix this somewhere it might actually be the answer others are looking for :)

First of all, your rant never mentioned if you tried my solution, nor did it request additional information or help. It was just (as stated) a pointless rant.

If the solution isn't working for you, then you're not doing it right. I say that also based on what you posted (or specifically, failed to post) in your rant.

Sberman- I totally forgot about that feature...!!! To get a call from some with NO CALLER ID during the day is no problem... But at night it is... Which is when I would need it... Thanks :D

Dirty Vegas- just because you lacked the ability to first weigh out the odds and possibilities of me using the technique you posted is completely a fault on your end... And if you carefully read what I posted in my so called "Pointless Rant" as you like to say (which I know you didn't) you would have read in that post where it says "NO CALLER ID" mentioned.... This is different from where it says blocked, restricted or unknown... So like I said your pointless so called solution was no help here...

The pointlessness of your rant is Illustrated by the fact that your statement of what your actual issue was and what you've done about it is shorter than your original post on the subject. Say what is nesscessary and dispense with all the diatribe.

Help will come whether from me or someone else. When you rant, that alienates those who have the solution you need. I'm trying to help you to at least get the help that you say you want.

I get alot of random calls from companies the best thing to do is make a blocked number contact and then just keep adding to it and add the contact to blocked and dont answer unknown calls after awhile i sure they will stop selling numbers on or if you want to ask them where they got your number from and say theres is a thing called data protection and i dont recall agreeing to have my number sold so if you ring me anymore or pass this number on i will ring the police

Its stopped them ringing me less often tell you that =]

Dirty Vegas - you talk in circles and try to trip people up. Let's break down your original post to see if it makes any sense.

While I was using iOS 6, I tried creating a contact [you tried?] called "Unknown" and giving it a silent ringtone. It did not work. [What did not work? You couldn't create a contact, you couldn't give it a silent ringtone] I still have the contact [What contact? The one you tried to create in iOS 6?], but incoming calls from an unknown number [what number?] would still ring through. Now with iOS 7, I can use the Phone App [what is this magic "Phone App" you speak of?] to try [again, you "try?" Are you every successful at anything?] to block all incoming calls from that contact [what number, what contact?]. If it does the trick [a solution does not start with "if" it works] , I won't really know, will i? [a "solution" is only offered by someone that has had success]

You, have not offered a solution that anyone can try. So take you fists down from your chest, then keep that hand from patting your upper back and chill out. Now, think before you type. Think before you type, again. Then, try not to type...ever.

This is not the first time I've heard similar feedback, so I'll try my best to clarify.

I successfully createad a contact called "Unknown" and assigned it a silent ringtone. The hing that did not work is that new calls form an "Unknown" number still rang through with my default ringtone. This was all done on my iPhone 4 with iOS6.

The contact called "Unknown" is still one of my contact and still has a silent rigntone assigned. It was tere while using iOS7 on the iPhone 4 and all transferred over to my 5s.

The "Phone App" that I speak of is the application that allows the iPhone to make and accept calls. By default, it is located in the dock and can be identified by a green square icon with a picture of an old-school telephone reciever. Now that I have iOS7, I just use the iPhone as a phone and am able to successfully block incoming calls from "Unknown" callers. I started the sentence with "If," because there would be no way I would know if the call never rang or never appeared on my alerts. I can confirm that I no longer recieve calls from "Unknown."

In short, anyone can create a contact called "Unknown" then block all calls from that contact. Thank you for your feedback and I hope this clears things up.

You are solving a problem that does not exist. The problem is not "Unknown" callers, the problem is "Caller ID Not Available" which some people call an "unknown caller."

By creating a contact with a name "Unknown" and not assigning a phone number, your aren't doing anything but creating a contact with no phone number. So, by design, there is no way a contact with no phone number can ever call you. You can't predict success simply because you're not receiving calls.

There's no way you can receive calls form "Unknown" because iOS searches contacts based on phone number. Your "Unknown" contact doesn't have a phone number so iOS can't select it for display.

Try testing your theory. Have a friend with caller ID blocked try to call you and see if it gets through. Granted that's not the same as no caller id, but at least it's a simple test of your solution.

** Tested and failed. Just created an "Unknown" contact w/no phone number, then called that phone from another iPhone using *67 to block caller ID. The call came through just fine with "No Caller ID" label. **

The original question was asking how to block calls when the phone number doesn't show up. We recently had to change my daughter's phone number, because her ex-boyfriend wouldn't stop calling her and telling her to die because she wouldn't take him back! She blocked his phone number, but if he blocked the caller ID, it still let the call through and made it ring her phone. There was no way to actually block the call. as it stands, Apple doesn't actually block the calls, it just doesn't give you an alert. It does the same thing for text messaging as well. The text messages are still there, as is the voicemail, it just doesn't ring your phone. In this case, you're still forced to deal with the caller on some level! There needs to be some way of completely blocking calls, whether the phone number shows up on caller ID or not! If the person Blocks their number, they don't want to deal with a text message or voicemail from somebody calling from the number that they blocked! Out of sight does not always mean out of mind!

Dirty Vegas -

Tried your solution and added "Unknown" as a contact... but the phone (iphone 5 ios7.0.4 up to date) won't allow me to block the contact. Am guessing because there is no phone number attached to the contact.

This is disappointing. It should be a very simple feature to add. Plus... just blocking random #'s requires me to create a contact for that number and block it. Too many steps and clogs up my contact list. Should be as simple as "block caller" right in the vmail or recent call list.

Am seriously considering switching to the Galaxy S. Since Jobs died, I am not impressed with Apple. It is losing its luster. And that's too bad, I have always loved Apple.

Apple, get your crap together or more defections are coming.

on new apple IOS5 do the following: on bottom of screen got to phone icon...RECENTS..find the number and press on the blue circle with the i in it..this will take you to screen without calling the number...scroll down and you will see BLOCK THIS CALLER...press that..thats all it takes!

To verify it has been done..go to settings...phone..blocked numbers.. it should be listed.😉
