Stereo vs Monoral

I just came from the Apple Store and their technical folks informed me that iMOVIE and iDVD programs are dual channel monoral audio and not stereo. However I played an iDVD on a DVD player with stereo outputs and noted that the two channels were not identical. Could someone give me a short tutorial on iMovie and iDVD stereo vs monoral.

Thank you in advance,

Art

sorry to say: they are fired! 😉

yes, stereo is two monochannels... but what does it mean ..dual channel monoral audio and not stereo...?? nonsense, because:

iM (and iDVD) handles stereo only (as "one" track); e.g.: we do read posts here, people have for some reason audiochanel1 only => stereo left only... no way in iM (or IDVD) to correct that; therefore, iLife6 allows the "swapping" of files iMGarageband, a designated audio app (which allows to show stereo as two tracks)

iM includes the stereo signal of the camera-import plus two extra tracks (both stereo); using QTpro, you can see, how an iM's dv-stream contains 6 audio-tracks. but as said, iApps = stereo only.....

and: you can not "select" audio tracks in IDVD, it is a consumer app...

Folks,

I inserted my iDVD into my MAC and from system preferences-audio-had the left -right balance control ready to use. I played the iDVD and when I shifted the slider to the all left side I heard the camcorder audio with no audio dubbing which I had done in iMOVIE. When I shifted the slider full right I heard the camcorder audio plus my audio dubbing. It sure sounds like two tracks with one having the combined camcorder audio plus the audio dub vs the other channel with only the camcorder audio. Please explain one more time why the two channels are not identical monoral?

Thank you,

Arthur

just some nomenclatura... I inserted my iDVD ... iDVD is an app, you inserted a DVD, a videoDVD, a disk... ;-))

back-to-topic:
there's something terrible wrong!!

using the recommended workflow from iM to iDVD, should make ONLY hear your "mix", original+dubbings....!

quite all app; search in your library/preferences for 3 files:

com.apple.iMovie3.plist
com.apple.iMovie.plist
com.apple.iDVD.plist

drag'em all into trash, empty trash

that will "reset" the apps, no project gets harmed...
open your iM project, export again to iDVD, try a new burn....
