You say you "had" and icloud account. Do you not have it any more?

Anyway, do the following test... using a computer's browser, log into icloud.com with your ID. Go to the contacts page.

If the contacts are there, then on the device, Go to Settings>icloud, turn off contacts and back on. Does that solve it?

If the contacts are gone, then since you have made a recent backup to itunes or icloud, perform a restore.

Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings. This will erase your device. Then you will go through the setup screens again as you did when your device was new, and when given the option, select Restore from iCloud Backup.

This link gives another overview of backup and restore:

HOWEVER... you may run into a snag, namely when the newly restored data is downloaded, an automatic icloud sync may occur that will wipe out any Apple data (contacts, calendars, etc) that was restored. If you have such an issue, read the following that describes restoring contacts. The info will also pertain to other Apple data.

I've experiecned the same panic twice now. I notice when my calls and messages come from just numbers.

Looking in the Contacts app, I have zero addresses. The first time, several of the features in the iCloud settings screen were turned off even though they had previously been on. Yesterday, the toggle was on, but my contacts were gone. Swiping it off and back to on reloaded them.

I'm also periodically having issues with icloud backups. When I wake up, my phone says it needs the password again.

They know there is a problem they caused and they are not going to fix it

That's good

On another post they say to just turn off and turn back on

I was lucky I had mine on a iPad

Since the update it had defaulted to backing up to iTunes

I was use to it going to the cloud I had cleaned up the cloud ready for a new backup

My horror it was not there

S oI am having the same issue...which appears to have affected all my NOTES as well. I had turned off the icloud backup feature on the iphone for the contacts but was too late for the notes and it appears ALL , EVERY SINGLE ONE, of my notes has vanished...i tried turning off and on the contacts but on luck in it picking up the contacts that are on the icloud backup....so my question...does that mean I am SOL with regards to all my notes? Since they appear to have also been wiped out of my icloud? Seriously? This has to be a joke....

Once you delete any thing from iPhone, it is not possible to restore. It is possible to restore only when you backuped the contacts before deleting them.

So,if you backup the contacts before deleting then follow the below instructions to recover lost contacts from iPhone.

---> Turn on the iPhone device.

---> After turn on locate the backup application which you are using and open it.

---> After open you will see the different options.Among this select and tap the restore option.

---> Now select the contacts option.

---> Here you will see the all contacts.

---> Among this select the all contacts and tap the restore option.

---> After restore process completes check the contacts restore or not and close the backup application.

You're lucky if you had a backup somewhere (iCloud and iTunes takes automatic backups whenever you connect it to your PC or Mac). You may have a backup, without you even knowing lol

Try this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766

If you had no backup, unless you are realy desparate and are willing to do anything to get your stuff back, try this TUTORIAL for iPhone contacts recovery WITHOUT BACKUP (it also includes a step-by-step video).

Goodluck mate!

Well I had the same problem, or the contacts just deleted themselfs while my phone was resting, locked, on my table. Tried alot of the suggestions I got here, but nothing worked.

Then I cheked when my last update was, conected the phone to iTunes on my computer, synced and now they are all back.

Chek that your iTunes is up to date too, don't think it has anything to do whit the matter, but you can never be too sure!
