Disable automatic iOS download?

Can you tell me how one knows that iOS 7 was downloaded and waiting to be installed?

Settings>General>Software Update

You will see the notice that it has been downloaded without permission

Did you actually get an answer to this? I not only have this problem (don't intend to install ios7 but there it sits...) but my phone has been making noises at ~4:30 AM ever since it downloaded! I assume this is because it's reminding me to install and I'm in Australia, not the US where it would be mid-afternoon, but VERY ANNOYING. I would dearly love to remove this update entirely but no one seems to know how. Thanks - any help GREATLY appreciated.

I own an iPhone 4 on iOS 6.1.3.

I don't wish to update to by now, as I must use certain elearning apps that my employer has not yet confirmed as compatible.

I cleaned my phone yesterday night to have more space available, and now suddenly I see that I lost 2,5GB due to the automatic download of ios7, which is there, waiting.

I need to use this space, and not have it lokcked. I will update iOS when I can.

Is there any way to delete this iOS download file? Or I should just assume that my iPhone is kidnapped by apple's will??

After last year's mess with maps, and now this, I am rather disappointed.

On an ios device, your op system updates will automatically download (with a later option to install) if you are both connected to power and wifi, when an update becomes available. This is a huge problem for those of us on download bandwidth limited systems such as satellite Internet. I've spent a fortune over the past couple of weeks buying download capacity because it was being used "behind my back". I finally tracked it to automatic downloads of IOS 7 (and patches) on our two iPads. If they are connected to wifi and power, this happens automatically and there is now way (I can find) to turn this off.

Apple:: please make this automatic behavior optional. I have a 250MB per day download limit (or have to spend lots of $$ to buy upgrade tokens) and the most recent patch was almost 1GB...

Is anybody listening to us? I'm getting pretty disgusted with the dictatorial behaviour exhibited by Apple on this. I'd really like to hear from Apple Support that they're at least thinking about a solution! Not just disabling automated downloads but also how to get rid of the download we don't want to install. Hello???

Let's better not spend energy. They won't ever reply or care... 100% sure about it.

The way I understand it is that when you get an apple product, you must use it as Apple wants when Apple wants. They decide. Our choices as users are just to be happy and thankful to Apple for enlightening our path with their wisdom, or switch to another brand.

I was in a hotel, btw, and I have just paid over 60$ thanks to ios 7 downloading secretly overnight. Try arguing with apple? No way! Update now and enjoy, or shut up.

How could the iPhone download updates automatically over WiFI if your internet connection is not active? This is an issue for your provider, not Apple.

Assuming your alarm is an automatic alert from Apple is incorect.

Please check your calendar events and/or reminders for your 4:30am alert that you have set up on your device. While you're at it, make sure to shut off alerts for E-Mail, Twitter, Facebok, Google+, etc..etc... to make sure nothing else could possibly wake you at 4:30am. Or use Do Not Disturb to automatically shut all of them off.

Thanks, but EVERYTHING is turned off. No events, no alarms, don't use email, twitter, facebook, etc, no notification comes up on screen... and it's not at 4:30 - was 4:02 the day before yesterday, 4:18 the day before and 4:23 the day before that... may not be the update but coincident with the installation. If I didn't use Sleep cycle, the Do not disturb would help (it's turned on but inactive durng Sleep Cycle becasue the screen doesn't lock) so now I just try to make sure it's on silent. If we ever figure out how to disable the update, it will be interestng to see if the noises go away too!

Sorry, maybe I didn't make myself clear the last time, Nothing in the software update would alert you besides a badge in the Settings icon. There is no audible alert. Period. I'm sorry you think it's tied to the Software Update, but it's not.

And I only said 4:30 because you said it was 4:30:

That's terrible. Even if they can't resolve this I at least hope sometime in the future you can get a better option for internet. I had dialup until the begining of this year (i know amazing right) but finally, FINALLY got high speed available with a pretty modest 250 gig monthly cap. I hope someday better internet gets to you, hopefully sooner then later.

zACK, thanks for the comment. We are at an off-grid cabin the mountains of Colorado. Our power is from a PV system and wind turbine. No phone coverage. No public utilities. Our only hope for Internet access, for probably the next 25 years, is satellite. We use HughesNet but Dish also offers a service up here. At least is it better than dial-up, when Apple does not eat our entire download bandwidth quota behind our backs ;-)
