SD Card not mounting (SanDisk Ultra 32gb)

Another MacBook Pro Problem

Hi,

I am trying to insert my 32GB SanDisk Ultra SD card into my MacBook Pro 15", however it isnt reading the card, and nothing happens.

I have tried restarting the Mac, updated all software/hardware and still nothing.

Does anyone know why this may be?

Thanks

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

I sometimes have problems reading some SD cards - I can usually get them to be recognized by inserting/taking them out in rapid succession until they finally show up on my Desktop.

Give it a try - you really can't hurt anything.

It's unbelievable. I tried one SDHC Card and two Micro SDHC using two different adapters (one by Samsung other by Kingston), and I had the same problem. The card mounting/recognition by the mac is totally intermittent.

My system is a MacBook Pro 15-inch, Mid 2010, OS X 10.8.5

The SDHC card and both the micro SDHC cards and their adapters are imediately recognized when plugged on my Samsung Ultrabook.

Since I don't have bootcamp here (only Parallels) I cannot say if it's a software (OS X) or a hardware failure. Both things are sad!

There have been some posting in YouTube about this issue, you can go here: http://youtu.be/nbc0l-t3f1Q or http://youtu.be/hrJ6jEEbX6w.

The thing is, you cannot insert the SD Card all the way in, it has to stick out a bit. Didn't get it the first time, but I tried again, and it worked

Weird, I know..

Hope this helps

I had the same issue. The only thing that works for me is simply inserting it into the slot and pressing it even further with as much pressure as I can. Though it does not seem to move--at least not noticeably--when I add pressure, my MacBook Pro instantly recognizes it. Wish I had tried that first, instead of reading through all sorts of other recommendations!

On Apple's support page (#9 in the list) they say that putting it in too slowly may be the issue. I was having the same problem and this is how I fixed it: Slide the sd card in very slightly. Make sure it's in only enough to be on track, do not let it contact the pins inside. Once in place hit it in quickly with your finger or palm. My computer recognized it immediately using this method. Hope it helps. I can make a youtube video upon request.

One other thing to note if these suggestions do not work: examine the card itself for any damage. Mine was broken a tiny bit in a corner, and that prevented it from being read on my MBP. However, plugging it into a different computer worked (maybe the reader is not as sensitive on some hardware).

Yes, this worked for me also. The card had been working fine the week before, but then refused to mount. I gave the port a couple of puffs of air from the Giotto air blower (which I use on my camera lenses/sensor) and then put the SDHC card back in - mounted first time and in under a second. 🙂

Sometimes it really is the simplest things.
