Reminder Sync Problem in IOS 7

I have the same problem.

I have an iphone 5 and ipad 2 that used to sync reminders until I upgraded to iOS7. My iPad doesn't have a data connection (no SIM), but it synced reminders fine through my wireless network. Is this something that's been disabled / discontinued in iOS7?

If you are using iCloud to house the reminders, you can always go into Settings -> iCloud on your iPhone and iPad and flip off Reminders, then turn it back on again. This should refresh the lists and hopefully fix syncing issues. They sync from my iPhone to my Mac just fine, so it hasn't been disabled or discontinued.

You may also find that Background App Refresh is off for Reminders. Ensure this is on, and try leaving Reminders in your multitasking list when making edits on another device to see if that helps.

I did the background app refresh and icloud sync on and off again.

I think it worked!

However, the colours of the reminders do not sync from the icloud.com to ios 7.

Well I think I've figured out my problem. It had utterly nothing to do with icloud and everything to do with iOS7. Everytime I used this app prior to iOS7, the default entry was reminders (Which tends to make sense because that's the name of the app!). However, iOS7 whether through the update to iOS7 or the redesign of the Reminders app, Apple decided that the default setting should be Tasks. So basically when I clicked on REMINDERS it loaded up TASKS as the default. I have since scrolled up to Reminders on the App and re-entered everything and it's syncing fine.

Glad you figured out the issue. I'd wager to bet Tasks is actually a reminder list from another e-mail account set up on your phone...do you have Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, or some other service? You can check by going to Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then looking at each account. Under their name, it will show what is active (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, etc.). You can disable these features by tapping it and switching them off.

I'm having a similar problem with an iPad 2 and iPhone 4S which have both been upgraded to iOS 7. For me, when I create a (or modify an existing) reminder on the iPhone, it will sync to the iPad without any issues (and pretty much immediately, like in iOS 6), however, when I create a (or modify an existing) reminder on the iPad, it will sync to iCloud but NOT to the iPhone UNLESS, I make a new reminder (or modify an existing one) on the iPhone, which seems to force it to sync with iCloud. It seems to me that the iPhone and iCloud aren't consistently 'speaking' to each other. I've sent feedback to Apple on this and so far haven't heard back; I'm hoping this is addressed in a not too distant update. This used to work flawlessly in iOS 6 and I heavily rely on Reminders. I should add that in iOS 6, I was able to close the app (from the multi-tasking menu), re-open it and it would sync with iCloud (on either iDevice) but on iOS 7, it doesn't seem to do that (at least on the iPhone, anyway).

@sidbio, this sounds like its related to the Background App Refresh feature in iOS 7. If Reminders is not on, it may not receive or post updates from iCloud. Odd that it is inconsistent between devices, however. If you create a reminder on your iPad and have Reminders open on your iPhone already, does it sync properly?

Nope, it doesn't - I just tried it and that's kind of what I meant in my post (sorry, I should've been a bit clearer on that, i.e., having the Reminders app open on iPhone). 🙂

I can see that it updates to iCloud because it shows up on my Macbook Air (2013) but there's no change on my iPhone, until I either, create a new reminder OR modify an existing one, which prompts the iPhone to sync/connect with iCloud. The change then happens on my iPad and Mac.

It would be good if Reminders for all 3 devices had a 'sync now' button, just in case things like this happen.

I think you're right. The iCloud utility for Windows was recently updated on my computer with the itunes iOS7 update. I think it found my Outlook (which I don't use because in locks up my e-mail account. - it's a Yahoo thing my ISP outsources e-mail out to) and configured iCloud to use Outlook's task, etc. I remember unchecking that while troubleshooting the problem. I'm going to assume it was a bit of both as I don't think I ever got a reminder popup on a task before. All I know now is it's working now (fingers crossed).

The other thing I should mention is that the Reminders app shows up in the list of apps in the Background App App Refresh setting in iOS 7 on the iPhone 4S but not on the iPad 2 and strangely enough, the Reminders app updates on the iPad (more readily, without having to make a change to a reminder) than on the iPhone.

That said, I was monitoring things yesterday and at times the iPad is now starting to not update as regularly as it once used to. I'm really thinking this is iCloud/Reminders app/iOS 7 related as this used to work without a hitch before. I think I"ll just make an appointment at the Genius bar and see what they say.

I have been having the same problem, my reminders app on my iphone 5 is not updating correctly after upgrading to iOS 7. I fixed the issue by going into the background refresh settings on my iPhone and turning it off for reminders. But leave background refresh on. My reminders will now update correctly on my Mac, iPhone and iCloud when I make a change on anyone of them.

@jason2115: That's an interesting workaround. Is it also giving you location-based reminders while not open?

@Gregory R: Some accounts use a different name than Reminders for their task list, such as Tasks, so once you know which list is linked to which account, you can easily consolidate or turn off the ones you don't need.

@sidbio: Did you try what @jason2115 did...turning off Background App Refresh for Reminders only? It shouldn't work, but if it does... 🙂

Unfortunately, location-based reminders do not work for me whether the app is open or not.
