Forgot iPod password - Help Me!

Ive forgot my ipod 5th gen password, when i try to restore it on iTunes it comes up with a message saying 'The iPhone update server could not be contacted'.. And the option to sync is grey and it wont let me click it. All i want to do is factory reset it as i have all my things on my ipad, thank god for iCloud. So i dont think I even need to sync anything..HELP
