iPhone 5 camera issues following iOS 7 update

After updating to iOS 7, I've had the following camera-related issues:

- poor image quality, especially with flash in darker light.

- lost flash, HDR, and camera flip controls at top of screen (but not when I access camera from lock screen)

- flash not working properly: doesn't flash on Auto (and sometimes on On) function when it's dark!

- in normal photo view, the control bars are not transparent (as I've heard they should be (they are for pan function), they are just black

Overall, the camera function is rubbish and the photo quality is really poor compared to when it ran on iOS 6.

Many other functions on the phone seem slow/sluggish too.

Anyone else with similar issues???

Hi Everyone,

I also have had some issues with the camera flash after the ios 7 update. I have had some increased success of the flash and pic quality by closing all the running apps, plugging my iPhone in and doing a hard restart (holding menu and power buttons down simultaneously for about 10 seconds, until the screen blacks out). Now I cannot say it is perfect yet, since I have only tried about 25 pics before posting this, but so far it has worked 100% of the time after following this procedure. I love the new IOS 7 update, so I really hope it is something simple like this for everyone. I hope this helps someone else out like it did me, because I have found so much help on the Apple community, I really would like to help contribute to the tips, versus always taking tips ; )

Thank you to everyone that helps in building this, I really do appreciate the helpful hints.

Keda Wood Dyes,

I am a new iPod Touch 5 user still in the learning phase on many of the features it has to offer. But I did notice that, since I upgraded to iOS7, I have had issues with the camera feature. Went to a family function last night and the camera took terrible pictures because it only flashed on occasion even though I had it set to ON. I tried AUTO thinking that would work, but no luck. So today, I proceeded to Google this issue. When I read your post, I figured I may as well give your suggestions a try: closed the running programs, did a hard re-set. I set the flash to ON. Then I took some shots in a dark room as well as aiming it right at a window and it flashed every time. I never would have known to do these things on my own so I am glad that I stumbled upon your post in my search for a solution. A bit too late for last night's event but for the next one, I will be ready to collect some good photos. Thank you for helping. I hope this works for others the way it did for me. 🙂

I am having the same problem... Even when I use the volume buttons to take a photo the flash does not work at all and when I use the screen button it works

When it feels like it and I am also getting 7 out of 10 photos look very grainy and poor in quality....

I have the iPhone 5 with iOS 7.0.2....

Where ever I go I always have my phone with me because I am a big fan of taking photos and since

this upgrade I have been really disappointed with the problems this upgrade has caused me and I am losing my faith and happiness with Apple products..is there anyway to revert back to at least the iOS 6 setting for the camera or at least a download to repair this terrible and much of a headache problem???!!!!

Hey

Just like many others, I have been affected by the software update and left with a camera that doesn't work.

I have been frantically searching through these discussions and tried everything that people have listed but to no avail.

I have also been told that as my warranty has ran out, apple will not fix the issue without paying? If this is true, then I think apple have lost the plot.

Can anybody confirm this is true? If not, I'm guessing a trip to the apple store is in order.

This is not something you expect from apple, especially when the market is so competitive..

I hope to find a fix soon.

Thanks
