Q: Trackpad does not work properly

More often than not the trackpad stops working.  Sometimes when I turn the notebook on, it doesn't work at all.  This is very distressing as I cannot do anything unless I can use the trackpad.  It sometimes continues to work ok and then suddenly stops or the cursor behaves in erratic ways.  How can I fix this?
