i know that iphone 5s is 7th generation of iphone but i don't understand which generation does the iphone 5c belong.

Apple doesn't refer to iPhones by generation. So, as there is no official generation scheme, you can assign it to whichever one you see fit.

The 5c is basically an iPhone 5, with some tweaks, such as additional radio frequencys that allow it to work more widely for some additional carriers, 70mAh battery increase, etc…, but for the most part it is an iPhone 5.
As the iPhone 5c and 5s were released on the same day, they would be the same generation. Like Bob said, there are some hardware differences to the device. So they would both be Gen 7, not that it really matters. Similar to the iPad gen 3 and 4, very similar devices, just a few hardware upgrades.
