what does "S" mean in iphone 5s?

On the iPhone 4s, the 's' stands for Siri because of the addition of Siri.

On the iPhone 5s, the 's' stands for Security because of the Touch ID addition..

I own a Samsung Galaxy S5 Active and, realizing that both Samsung and Apple use the letter'S' in their models names, decided to find out what it means on my Samsung. According to them, (as cheesy as it sounds,) it stood for 'Super Smart' back in 2011 and the name stuck since. Now, using logic, since the Samsung is a 'learn it or lose out' platform, one would have to be smart to use a super smart device. Since the iPhone is capable of the same thing but has been 'dumbed down' so that anyone can use it, the letter 'S' obviously stands for 'Super Dumb'. See, everyone's kid owns an iPhone but how many kids own a Samsung Galaxy? Make sense now?

Contrary to popular belief, the "S" never stood for speed. It doesn't stand for anything. What does the "3" stand for in the 3G? It's not the 3rd model, it's only the 2nd. Starting with the 3G the "odd numbered" years have always added an S (except for the 5C - What does the "C" stand for)? 3GS, 4S, 5S, 6S...

Technically 3G in iPhone 3G and 3Gs stands for the maximum network type it could connect to. That being 3G (as opposed to the Edge connection of most other phones, and its predecessor: the iPhone 1) at the time. It was technically the Second Generation iPhone released. Not the Third. There was no iPhone 2.

The S has only ever served to differentiate versions. There has never been any actual meaning for the S. Not even when Siri was introduced.

The C on the 5C was assumed to mean Color but this again was never confirmed by Apple.

They are simply identifiers, they do not need to mean anything and they don't.

Can't anyone accept the fact that the names of things don't have to stand for anything? What does "Exxon" stand for? What does the "XKE" in Jaguars stand for? What about the "S" in Tesla Model S? What does "KODAK" stand for? The "X" in "UberX"? The Boeing 777? (hint: It's smaller than a Boeing 747). Windows XP? The "D" in battery sizes? Or "C", or "AA", or "AAA" (and whatever happened to "A" and "B"?) Why did "Mountain Lion" come AFTER "Lion", if a Mountain Lion is smaller than a Lion? Many things need no explanation and have no explanation. Accept it.

TThe S signifies that the phone is the next model with improved performance. The 4S has more features than the 4, the 5S has more features than the 5, and the 6S has more features that the 6. It's as simple as that.

Please explain what the "S" in "3GS" has to do with the subject of this thread, which is about the "5S"? Are you saying that the letter "S" means the same for all time with Apple? So how does that apply to the Apple iPhone SE, which is SLOWER than other models? Or does the "S" in this case mean "Slower?" But that would be inconsistent with your implied suggestion that the meaning of "S" never changes?

And why bring this up in an almost 3 year old thread?

HAHA i like the way u think. so the "S" stands for Speed/Swift for the the Iphone 3GS and it is not the same for every one because the S for the iphone 4S is for Siri because it was the first one with Siri, and i like the Slower for the Iphone SE that's good

Apple has never said that it means anything specific.

too many people say that S stands for security cuz they added in the iphone the newly finger print pass to secure the iphone of the owner so that no one could open it unless the owner's finger print
