Q: 2nd Hand Mac Mini Server

Hi All,

I have just bought a used Mac Mini Server 2011 and the seller has wiped it clean of all his data but has also managed to remove server app as well.

He doesn't have any boot disc or anything to restore from.

Is there anyway I can get it back to how it left Apple as new machine?

Thanks,

Andy

    Call 1-800-676-2775.

Give them the serial number, and for a shipping fee they will burn copies of the original disks.

You can also buy "white cover" Snow Leopard disks but they do not have all of the original "other software" on them as the gray dissk Apple sends will.  But I would get copies of the original disks (my opinion, others may dissent).

TO reach Mountain Lion or Lion or the upcoming Mavericks you need SL at least.

    Hi Steve,

I will give that a try with the UK store and see what they say.

I work out of the country and wanted to use the mini server as an always on VPN host so I could get on my system but unfortunately I didn't have time to sort this with the problem of not having the software!

I'll keep you updated with progress!

    Thanks,

    Andy

Sorry about the phone number ... forget about non-US part of this forum sometimes.

Try the in-country numbers for support, which I do not know.

If it's a mid-2011 Mac Mini Server and you have some network bandwidth available, Internet Recovery might be an option.   There is some additional information here (HT4886) and here (HT4718).

    Cheers Mr Hoffman,

That is probably the easiest solution for me.

I have a new question now, the mini server is still registered to the previous owner and he isn't replying to any emails now! Is there a way I can get it registered to me without him unregistering it at his end?

    Thanks,
