Hello Outlookark,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

From what you describe it sounds like you are getting a prompt from iTunes that you need to update to iTunes 11.1 since you have upgraded your phone to iOS 7.

You can verify your iTunes version number on your computer with this article:

On Mac OS X

  1. Open iTunes.
  2. From the iTunes menu, choose About iTunes. A window appears with scrolling text. The first text that appears displays the iTunes version (press the Space bar to freeze the text if it's moving too fast for you to read).

From: iTunes: How to find which version you are using

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1208

You can update to iTunes 11.1 in a couple different ways:

To update through the program itself:

Mac: Choose iTunes > Check for Updates

From: iTunes: How to install the latest version

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5654

Also, if you need to for some reason, you can download the newest version of iTunes directly from the website:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

All the best,

Sterling

iTunes 11 is Mac OS X or Windows only. The iPad has iTunes iOS software that includes an iTunes store app called iTunes and a Music app for your music and iTunes Radio, a Podcasts app for podcasts, etc. iTunes functions in version 11 are chopped up across several apps on your iOS device. There is no iTunes 11 for iOS.

If you are getting an update request, you need to go to your computer and upgrade its version of iTunes. Then hook up the iPad and try to sync. If you already have iTunes 11 on the computer you sync your device to, then try attaching the device via Apple's USB cable and syncing manually. Does it work? The problem may be with settings for Wi-Fi sync or iCloud sync if manual sync will work but you get an error when trying to sync over Wi-Fi. In that case, you might need to log out of homesharing on iTunes and on your device, then log back in, log out and in to iCloud, or even reset your network settings.

Every time i plug my iPad into my computer to sync with iTunes, it says "The ipad cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 11.1 or later, then says where to go to download it, yes the download wont work on my iPad, so i cant sync my iPad to iTunes, so all the albums ive just brought i cant get onto my iPad?
Please help and advise how to do this as otherwise there is no point me even having an iPad, i use it to listen to music while on the train to work and browse the web

Thanks

This is correct. You need to download/update iTunes 11 on your PC or Mac. That's what iOS 7 wants to connect to for syncing. That's why you only get the alert when you are attempting to sync to a computer (your computer's software is not up to date).

As for getting music on your ipad, you can go to Settings > iTunes & App Store > and select the automatic downloads options for iTunes purchases. This won't help you get your other music on the device without syncing, though. Is there some reason you cannot update your computer's version of iTunes? iOS requires it, unfortunately, even though I agree it lacks some of the very useful features of iTunes 10.

I've got the most up to date iTunes in my pc,

But you wrote,

"Every time i plug my iPad into my computer to sync with iTunes, it says "The ipad cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 11.1 or later, then says where to go to download it," yes the download wont work on my iPad,

Correct.

You cannot download iTunes on the iPad and you don't want to.

You need to donwlaod it on your computer and install it on your computer.

What version of iTunes are you running on your PC?

Which OS (name & version) are you running on your PC?

It's saying I need version 11.1 of iTunes on my iPad,

No, it not because you don't need (and cannot put) iTunes 11 on your iPad.

but when I tried using it yesterday, it required an update and then I had to restart my computer to install it

After it installed, did you restart your computer and verify which version of iTunes is actually running?

Launch iTunes then iTunes menu Help > About.

I am having the same issue, and I think the problem stems from incomplete and confusing messages from iTunes. The message directs the user to update "iTunes." Checking for updates on my Mac tells me that my iTunes is up-to-date. So, the natural thing to do next is to look for an update to iTunes on the iPad. After lots of frustrating searching through the App Store, etc. we learn (here) that iTunes on the iPad is not separately updated.

The problem I am having (I think) is that my OS on the Mac is too old for iTunes 11. I am running OS X 10.5.8 and the iTunes download site referenced above says that iTunes 11.1.3 (the current version now) requires 10.6.8 or later. I assume that if I update OS X, I will be able to update iTunes on my Mac, and finally be able to link my iPad with my Mac,

You can purchase.? *** is that answer. Someone gets the "can't connect to ipad because it (get that? IT) needs itunes11 installed. Can't connect to ipad , IT, same thing right. It should say the PC or device that can actually run iTunes, needs update. Does Apple do this **** just to make it difficult and force users to jailbreak to get It

to be intuitive or are the apple ******** too elite for us "regular" folks?

Jeesh, where should I send my donation apple? Should I just make the check out to Carl Icahn?

Then the OP thanks for the info to buy something they don't need!

Hey SpecialEdK, google cydia.

Chris, don't bother replying here, I won't be back.
