When I go to photos & camera, and then camera roll, and swipe, I get the red delete button. When I press the delete button it doesn't delete The 8.6 gig in camera roll

Thanks to Rocka. I went to image capture and there was a button "delete after downloading". It worked perfectly and allowed me to free up enough storage to download iOS 7 on my 4S.
