Yesterday my TouchID was working perfectly today it stopped working well, the sensor is clean and so is my finger that I set it to, I installed 7.0.1 and it still won't work i tried multiple fingers but it says it failed everytime!

This has happened to me today as well, i got the phone friday morning and its worked fine all weekend but today it stopped recognising any of my recorded prints

I cleared the prints and tried to record new ones and it took multiple attempts to get a successful print recorded (in the shop it took like 5 taps to get the whole print then moved onto edging) but now it more often than not fails to record a whole print and i have to start again.

As of now i have no prints recorded and cant successfully record new ones (it gets the whole print other than one of the three central lines of the fingerprint and then refuses to store them right up until it fails)

During the process of troubleshooting this today the few times it has allowed me to record a print and enter the phone via touchid it has taken much longer to do so than it had been when it was working properly (4-5 seconds to successfully read the print)

Had the same problem, thought it was my scanner until I let my girlfriend and friends try it and then it work perfectly for them then when I do it it, fail. I went to the apple store and tried the demo units and realized the white phone reads the print better than the black. So I guess what I'm saying what kind color does everyone have and have you let others use it to see if it records their prints as easily as it did you first time!

I have the white one and it's presenting the exact same problem as some of you are experiencing with the black

I've found that if you are a little sweaty or handle something plastic (Xbox controller, garbage bag ect) then it stops working, I've also found that if it doesn't work with dry hands clean off the sensor with a glasses cloth or something and it works first time

Apple tech support did tell me there was a software issue making this happen but I'm not sure about that it's possible though because it worked perfectly for 3 days and I have to assume I had sweaty hands at least once in 3 days - it got unreliable after 7.0.1

So now we can rule out the reasons about colors. I also have a pair of sweaty hands -_- ....

But at the begining, it works really perfect. The accuracy of the sensor decreases with time. And I remembered Apple has said the sensor would become clever and clever....

Today the iOS 7.0.2 was released, which didn't address the problems about TouchID directly. I am not sure whether this issue has been fixed.

I truly hope it is a software issue rather than a hardware issue.

For all of you having problems just know its a software thing (i think) because ive already exchanged my iphone for a new one and its happening again. chances of this being hardware is slim to none or else the application to start the scan wouldnt even open. Although it is possible that dirt got in the small cracks of the scanner or your screen protecter is accumulating alot of dirt around the sensor. i hope its not those last two and is hardware but id be sure to check those. If the dirt is in between the scanner cracks though, it is nearly impossible to clean. Let me know if you guys find anything else!
