How do I build my app for iOS 6?

I'm new to developing and coding but I was thinking and trying to figure this out. I'm using Xcode 5 and just started using it about 2 days ago well I'm almost done building my app to realize it says in the general part that the build is only for 7.0 and I can't select 6.0. This is a really big problem for me because I want to make this app but there's people out there who ether can't update, or doesn't want to update to iOS 7 how can I make my app compatable with iOS 6?

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

Always set Base SDK to latest, which is now 7.0 (build settings), then set the Deployment Target to the lowest your app supports, which in your case would be 6.0.

Those provide a range of support from highest to lowest iOS versions.

When i go to change the development tagarget to 6.0 it only has one option and thats 7.0

Im using xcode Version 5.0 (5A1413) and no it doesnt look like that

Create a new project using the single view template, then check there.

Still no joy, you may need to reinstall XC5, as I have no idea why your install isn't cooperating, sorry.

Ok so i got it to show up and i changed the iOS development build to 6.0, now you said something about keeping the Base SDK the latest, how do i do this?
